Job summary

Stantec in Chicoutimi, QC is seeking a Project Planner to join a team delivering complex engineering projects. You will develop and manage CPM-based schedules, liaising with clients and project teams to keep plans current and aligned with project goals.

The role requires regular on-site presence at client locations and travel as project needs dictate. Ideal candidates bring 5+ years in construction/engineering planning, experience with EPCM teams, and proficiency in Primavera or MS Project along

Qualifications

  • Minimum 5 years of construction/engineering project experience.
  • Experience contributing to multidisciplinary EPCM teams.
  • Engineering degree in Civil/Structural/Electrical/Mechanical is an asset.
  • Asset: Project Management program degree/diploma.
  • Strong planning, organization, and communication skills.

Responsibilities

  • Develop schedules for engineering/construction projects using CPM.
  • Create and maintain project schedules for clients, PMs, teams.
  • Develop baseline schedules with PMs before start-up.
  • Maintain and update schedules through project lifecycle.
  • Quantify impacts, assess progress, provide updates.
  • Collaborate with PMs to develop short-term schedules and reviews.

As a Project Planner, join our team of experts and contribute to the success of our organization.

This position may be based out of any of our offices in Montréal, Laval, Trois-Rivières, Québec City, or Chicoutimi. However, the primary work location will be Chicoutimi, as regular on-site presence at one of our client locations is required. Employees based in another office will be expected to travel to Chicoutimi as project needs dictate.

Your Responsibilities
  • Developing schedules for engineering and construction projects using the Critical Path Method (CPM).
  • Creating and maintaining project schedules tailored to the needs of clients, project managers, and project teams.
  • Prior to project start-up, developing baseline schedules in coordination with the project manager and project team to logically sequence the project scope.
  • Maintaining and updating project schedules throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Identifying and quantifying the impacts of completed work, assessing actual progress, and providing regular schedule updates.
  • Incorporating resource and/or cost data into schedules when required.
  • Liaising with clients and project teams to discuss work impacts and resolve issues.
  • Ensuring proper planning is completed before work begins by consulting the appropriate project team members and the client.
  • Collaborating with project managers to develop short-term schedules, monitor progress against these schedules, evaluate impacts on the master schedule, and recommend corrective actions.
  • Providing schedule-related information as needed regarding content, modifications, and presentation.
  • Executing the integrated change control process for project schedules.
  • Supporting project controls specialists and project managers with change management activities related to scope, cost, and schedule control requirements.
  • Staying current with advances in scheduling software and planning tools.
  • Assisting with the monitoring, evaluation, approval, and implementation of change requests.
  • For projects requiring an on-site presence, working closely with clients to support scheduling and coordination requirements.
  • Managing recurring and ad hoc reporting requirements and actively participating in project reporting activities.
  • Performing other planning-related duties as directed by the Project Controls Manager.

Your Background
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in a construction and/or engineering project environment.
  • Demonstrated experience contributing effectively to multidisciplinary EPCM (Engineering, Procurement, Construction, and Project Management) teams.
  • A degree in Civil, Structural, Electrical, or Mechanical Engineering is considered an asset.
  • A diploma or degree in a recognized Project Management program is considered an asset.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities within tight deadlines.
  • Self-motivated, independent, and capable of handling multiple tasks simultaneously.
  • Strong organizational and planning skills.
  • Proven ability to build trusted relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Proficiency with Primavera, MS Project, Microsoft Office, and Adobe applications.
  • Strong leadership, communication, and adaptability skills.
