We are hiring a Project Manager for Canonical's Devices business. This role involves coordinating and completing large, complex customer-facing projects, overseeing all aspects of delivery, and acting as the primary liaison between engineering teams and customers.

You will manage projects involving Ubuntu images on devices like robots, edge gateways, IoT devices, PCs, and automotive systems. This high-profile role requires building and maintaining relationships with team members, customers, partners/vendors (Silicon vendors, OEMs, ODMs, IHVs), and internal teams.

Location : Remote in the AMERICAs and/or EMEA regions.

Role responsibilities include:

  1. Managing projects through their lifecycle to meet goals for Canonical and clients.
  2. Delivering engineering professional services.
  3. Working with engineering teams on custom board enablement and Ubuntu image delivery.
  4. Developing project statements of work.
  5. Drafting and maintaining project schedules and plans.
  6. Securing client agreement on schedules and work items.
  7. Ensuring projects are delivered on time, within scope and resources.
  8. Managing risk mitigation plans.
  9. Driving technical issues to resolution.
  10. Communicating regularly with clients and stakeholders.
  11. Managing delivery schedules of third-party deliverables.
  12. Keeping management informed on project status.
  13. Identifying and addressing custom engineering requests outside existing contracts.
  14. Promoting Canonical technologies to customers.
  15. Supporting work across different time zones and non-traditional hours.

Candidate requirements:

  • Solid experience managing engineering services projects, leading software teams and field engineers.
  • Experience managing cross-cultural, multi-continent project resources, especially in Asia, Europe, and the Americas.
  • Degree in Science, Technology, Engineering, or Math preferred.
  • Good knowledge of Linux, open source community, and computer architecture.
  • Excellent English communication skills.
  • Strong leadership and problem-solving skills; experience building partnerships.
  • PMP/PMI or PRINCE2 certification preferred.
  • Ability to work non-standard hours and travel up to 4 times a year.
