Veolia North America seeks a Senior Commissioning Project Manager to lead multimillion-dollar, time-sensitive mission-critical projects across North America. You will head teams including engineers, subcontractors, and client vendors, developing procedures and tests for data centers, financial institutions, and power plants.

Extensive travel required. The role requires 15+ years in Electrical/Mission Critical fields, with strong leadership and budgeting skills; P.Eng preferred but not essential;

Qualifications

  • Experience in Electrical/Mission Critical environments and projects.
  • Fifteen years in the industry; degree preferred or equivalent.
  • Proven ability to manage design, energy services and commissioning within scope, budget, and schedule.
  • Familiar with building codes and industry standards (NETA, ASHRAE, LEED).
  • Canada/US cross-border project experience is a plus.

Job Description

Veolia (formerly SourceOne Inc.) is seeking a Senior Commissioning Project Manager to join its Mission Critical department. The selected candidate will represent the company in managing multimillion-dollar, time-sensitive projects for Mission Critical clients. This role involves leading teams of employees, subcontractors, and client vendors to execute critical systems infrastructure projects, including Data Centers, Financial Institutions, and Power Plants across North America.

Responsibilities:

  1. Serve as a Senior Commissioning Project Manager within a team of qualified professionals and degreed engineers.
  2. Manage subcontractors and client vendors on a project-by-project basis.
  3. Assign project tasks and schedules.
  4. Act as a technical subject matter expert for complex mission-critical projects.
  5. Develop procedures, methods, and testing scripts for power, hydraulic, and cooling systems for Data Centers, Financial Institutions, and Power Plants.
  6. Participate in complex and high risk system tests across mission critical projects, contributing to proper planning and risk mitigation.
  7. Provide technical assessments and recommendations for improvement for major project reports
  8. Develop best practices and lessons learned databases for implementation of commissioning processes and field testing procedures.
  9. Manage other technical resources and direct their participation on Veolia/ Veolia projects in the US and Canada.
  10. Develop training resources for field commissioning teams, create and populate training databases, and ensure new and existing employees have exposure to training modules.
  11. Lead client meetings, schedules, and issue resolution processes.
  12. Prepare proposals for client RFPs and project pricing requests.
  13. Assist with departmental budgets, KPIs, and financial planning for the Canadian region.
  14. Review and ensure the accuracy of documentation from contractors, subcontractors, and vendors.
  15. Oversee and validate the work of subcontractors on client projects.
Qualifications
  • Minimum 15 years of experience in the Electrical/Mission Critical industry; a Bachelor’s degree is preferred, but an Associate degree from relevant technical programs will be considered.
  • Equivalent combinations of education and experience are acceptable.
  • 5–10 years of experience in commissioning complex installations and solving construction/operational problems.
  • Proven experience managing design, energy services, and commissioning projects within scope, budget, and schedule.
  • Familiarity with NETA, ASHRAE, LEED, and other building codes and industry standards.
  • Comprehensive understanding of Mission Critical systems related to MEP equipment in Data Centers and Power Plants.
  • Expertise in electrical systems, Including but not limited to High Voltage and Medium Voltage switchgear, Main Switch boards up to 5000A, Back up Generation, Uninterruptible Power Systems (UPSs), Battery Systems, Static and Automatic Transfer systems, plus other applicable power transfer equipment ranging from 600V A.C/D.C and lower.
  • Knowledge of plant control systems (BMS, SCADA, PLCs) and communication protocols (TCP/IP, Modbus, Canbus).
  • Familiarity with instrumentation for PID control loops.
  • Self-motivated with experience in MEP systems design, commissioning, retro-commissioning, and energy modeling for complex buildings.
  • Ability to perform construction observations, develop functional test plans, and execute tests for electrical and control systems.
  • Strong people and negotiation skills, time management, and problem-solving abilities.
  • Capable of explaining technical concepts to non-technical audiences.
  • Fiscal awareness and ability to mentor direct reports.
  • If needed, be able to interview and participate in the selection of candidates to fill direct report positions.
  • P.Eng licensed in the U.S. or Canada (EIT or equivalent professional engineering membership accepted); preferred but not essential.
  • C.E.T. or equivalent with extensive commissioning experience.
  • LEED Associate and PMP certification preferred but not mandatory.
  • Canadian CSA Z462 Electrical Safety qualification or U.S. NFPA 70E equivalent.
  • Infrared Thermography certification preferred.
  • Proficiency in computer skills.

Work Environment:

  • Extensive local, national, and occasional international travel required (40–70% annually).Typical travel days are Mondays and Fridays, with on-site work on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays. Veolia provides employees the opportunity to return home on Fridays tospend weekend with their families, unless specific work requirements necessitate otherwise.
  • Occasional work outside normal business hours to accommodate maintenance windows or weekend schedules.
  • Work environments include high-energy areas such as central plants, switchgear rooms, and power transmission areas in Mission Critical facilities.
