Responsibilities

The Project Manager will support the operations of core facilities in the Schulich School of Medicine & Dentistry by implementing the Schulich-wide core facility program and associated projects. The role will assist in executing operational plans, monitoring project progress, and supporting the day-to-day functioning of core facilities to promote high-quality research activities. Working under the direction of senior leaders, the Project Manager will contribute to the implementation of core facility strategies, assist in preparing business plans, and support the tracking and analysis of key performance indicators. The role will help stabilize and professionalize core facility infrastructure to enhance research capacity. The Project Manager will coordinate and implement various projects, ensuring outcomes are achieved within timelines and budgetary constraints, and in compliance with relevant policies and procedures. The role will support project planning, contribute to the design and evaluation of project components, and assist in the collection, analysis, and dissemination of results. The Project Manager will also prepare project status reports and support financial tracking and reporting.

Qualifications

Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree in a relevant discipline
  • Project Management Professional Certification
  • Master’s degree in a related field preferred
  • Training in a scientific or technical discipline is an asset

Experience:

  • 5 years of experience supporting or coordinating research or operational projects in a research facility in an academic institution, industrial research environment, or industrial operations management setting
  • Experience with project planning, tracking, and reporting, including budget monitoring and stakeholder coordination
  • Experience working in or with core research facilities or shared research infrastructure is preferred
  • Experience using project management or research administration software tools is preferred

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

  • Knowledge of regulations and guidelines governing research in an academic environment
  • Knowledge of Ontario Building Code and Ontario Occupational Health and Safety Act guidelines and regulations
  • Knowledge of project coordination techniques, including planning, scheduling, and tracking multiple projects with competing priorities
  • Familiarity with research environments, including compliance requirements, funding agency guidelines, and research infrastructure operations
  • Familiarity with data management practices and tools used in research or technical environments is an asset
  • Understanding of budgeting principles and financial tracking to support project and operational reporting with the ability to ensure expenditures and resources are within allotments, and to make appropriate modifications when required
  • Ability to collect, organize, and analyze data to support performance measurement and reporting
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple tasks and deadlines effectively
  • Proficiency with project management tools and software (such as Microsoft Project, Smartsheet, or equivalent)
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to prepare reports, presentations, and documentation for diverse audiences
  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to collaborate effectively with internal and external stakeholders
  • Attention to detail and accuracy in handling administrative and financial information
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team, demonstrating initiative and accountability
  • Comfort working in a dynamic environment with shifting priorities and multiple stakeholders
  • Intermediate computer skills in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook) and other relevant administrative tools
  • Familiarity with University research policies and practices
