Role: Project Manager - Capital Projects
Location of Services: Edmonds, BC
Contract Duration: 12 months
Max INC Rate: $74.81/
Max T4 Rate: $61.83/
Experience and Role Accountabilities
• A minimum of five (5) years of project management experience or equivalent.
• Plan, direct, and report on infrastructure and other construction project activities by monitoring project benefits, resources, and status. Create documents such as project plans, action logs, communication plans, status reports, and post-implementation reviews to ensure the project is implemented as planned.
• Develop project plans and risk management plans for low to medium risk infrastructure or construction projects with a capital cost generally up to $20 million, managing the project throughout its lifecycle.
• Manage multiple activities effectively, including quality assurance, engineering, First Nations and stakeholder engagement, communication, regulatory approvals, procurement, planning and controls, construction management, pre-commissioning, employee relations, and safety. Use project management principles to monitor progress and establish standards for implementation to keep projects within time and budget constraints.
• Complete project management activities such as scoping, planning, managing, monitoring, and reporting on project tasks using intermediate skills in Microsoft Office and project management software to meet BC Hydro’s business needs.
• Maintain meaningful relationships with stakeholders including customers, engineers, and field crews through regular communication, utilizing excellent verbal, written, and presentation skills to enable timely project progression.
Education and Skills
• Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Business, Economics, or a related discipline.
• An Engineering degree is an asset.
• Project Management Professional (PMP) designation.
• Intermediate skills in MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Project).
• Advanced English skills for professional communication, both written and spoken.
Work Assignment Requirements:
As a Project Manager 1 in BC Hydro’s Project Delivery team, you will be responsible for planning and executing a portion of BC Hydro’s extensive portfolio of transmission and substation projects. The team manages over 500 projects across various phases, from early identification to in-service close-out, with costs ranging from $1M to $1B.
One position is available in the Lines & Interconnections portfolio. The role requires excellent collaboration and communication skills to engage with stakeholders and meet demanding schedules. Projects include new transmission lines, relocations, telecommunication enhancements, and emergency restoration projects across the Province, some of which are customer-driven with tight timelines.
Duties:
Responsibilities include but are not limited to acting as a Project Manager for multiple projects of low to medium risk, developing project plans, managing project budgets and schedules, developing business cases, reporting, managing financials, evaluating risks, leading multidisciplinary teams, developing supply chain strategies, representing BC Hydro in contracts and negotiations, engaging with stakeholders, and ensuring project documentation quality and compliance.
Qualifications:
• Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Business, Environmental Sciences, or equivalent. Candidates with a technical diploma and relevant experience will be considered.
• PMP certification is required.
• Minimum five (5) years of progressive project management experience in an electric utility or similar environment.
• Excellent communication, facilitation, negotiation, and interpersonal skills.
• Intermediate technical knowledge in a relevant field.
• Knowledge of project standards, policies, practices, and processes.
• Ability to operate in a dynamic environment and adapt strategies as needed.
• Proven leadership skills in managing and motivating teams.
• Field experience engaging with plant operations and construction management.
• Strong planning, organizational, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
• Preferred experience in full project lifecycle evaluation and structured approach in the Identification phase.
