Job summary

ATS Automation Tooling Systems Inc is seeking a Project Manager in Vaughan, Canada to lead complex automation projects from intake to installation and customer acceptance. The role requires hands-on knowledge of robots, PLCs, instrumentation, and machine controls, with AutoCAD proficiency.

Qualifications

Project Manager
  • Pay Rate: $96,000 - $132,000 per annum

Major Duties

The Project Manager is responsible for leading complex engineering and test system projects from order intake through installation, commissioning, and final customer acceptance. Projects may support a broad range of industries including automotive, aerospace, transportation, energy, industrial manufacturing, life sciences, consumer products, defense, and emerging technologies. Acting as the primary customer interface, the Project Manager leads cross-functional teams to deliver high-quality technical solutions safely, on schedule, and within budget.

Specific Responsibilities
  • Lead project teams to deliver contracted scope, meeting codes and standards.
  • Serve as main customer contact; maintain regular written and verbal communication, documenting key events and issues.
  • Identify, assess, and mitigate project risks; develop and implement risk management plans.
  • Plan projects, allocate budgets for labor/materials, oversee schedules, and assign resources.
  • Monitor project progress, resolve team conflicts, and track contract changes via Change Order Requests.
  • Manage project financials: coordinate billing, invoicing, milestone documentation, and customer approvals for payments and closure.
  • Prepare accurate financial/resource forecasts and management reports.
  • Foster team morale and efficiency; mentor and lead by example.
  • Ensure compliance with ATS procedures, ethical standards, and Code of Business Conduct.
  • Oversee health, safety, and environmental compliance; conduct hazard assessments, audits, and ensure training per matrix.
  • Implement corrective measures for unsafe conditions/acts; provide supervision and instruction.
  • Ensure provision and maintenance of safe equipment and PPE; enforce ARC Flash and Shock Hazard PPE requirements.
  • Attend HSE Due Diligence training and support CSA pressure boundary component testing as needed.
  • Advocate for customer satisfaction; proactively address concerns and elevate as required.
  • Partner with ATS account managers and assist Applications Engineering with quotations and customer interactions.
  • Attend project status meetings; may report to Program Manager for larger programs.
  • Track and execute contract changes only after customer agreement.
Qualifications

Education:

Post-secondary college diploma, engineering degree, or an equivalent combination of education, training, and relevant experience in electrical, mechanical, controls engineering, or a related technical field.

  • Completion of or in the process of achieving the Project Management Professional (PMP) designation is an asset.

Experience:

  • Must have experience managing automation projects in excess of $1 million with multiple disciplinary teams.
  • Must have a proven track record of providing positive leadership and coordination to a multi-disciplined project design and assembly team.
  • Must have acted in a leading role, preferably as a Project Manager, with a minimum of (5) five years’ experience in a variety of projects/markets on a multidiscipline team.
  • Must have a practical working knowledge of robots, PLC’s, instrumentation or other machine controls packages, sensors and pneumatics.
  • Preference will be given to those who possess an excellent manufacturing or process engineering background, a superior mechanical aptitude and proven trouble‑shooting skills.
  • An ability to work effectively with customers according to deadlines and under pressure‑filled conditions is essential.
  • In addition, must be familiar with the use of computerized word processing and computerized spreadsheets and AutoCAD or similar drawing package.

Health & Safety Requirements:

  • Work in conformance with divisional health, safety and environmental procedures and compliance to legislative requirements
  • Refrain from removing or altering safety devices or guarding unless hazardous energies are controlled through lockout-tagout methods
  • Report any unsafe conditions or unsafe acts, defect in any equipment or protective device, and any accidents/incidents to the supervisor
  • Ensure that the required protective equipment is used for assigned tasks
  • Attend all required health, safety and environmental training
  • Assist in investigating accidents/incidents where applicable
  • Refrain from engaging in any prank, contest, feat of strength, unnecessary running or rough and boisterous conduct
