Job summary

ALTEN Canada is seeking an experienced Project Manager for defense programs to oversee engineering changes and ship maintenance initiatives. You will coordinate cross-functional teams across engineering, operations, and customers to drive on-time delivery and sustainable solutions.

The role requires 5+ years in engineering project management, strong stakeholder skills, and experience with maintenance and in-service support. PMP certification is preferred; MBA is a plus.

Context of the project

The Defense program is currently managing a significant volume of customer-driven engineering changes and ship maintenance-related activities. Unlike preventive or corrective maintenance teams, this group is responsible for overseeing additional work requests initiated by customers, known as engineering changes. With approximately 150 active engineering changes underway, the program requires additional project management support to effectively manage the workload.

Responsibilities

• Manage engineering change requests from initiation to implementation.


• Coordinate ship sustainment, modification, and installation activities.


• Track project schedules, budgets, risks, and deliverables.


• Liaise with customers, engineering teams, and key stakeholders.


• Support mechanical modification projects, including crane installations and vessel upgrades.


• Prepare project status reports and updates for program leadership.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of project management experience in engineering, industrial, manufacturing, marine, or defense environments.


• Experience managing engineering changes, system modifications, or technical projects.


• Strong stakeholder management and coordination skills.


• Experience supporting maintenance, sustainment, or in-service support programs.

Assets

• Naval, defense, aerospace, or shipbuilding experience.


• Mechanical engineering project exposure.


• PMP certification preferred; MBA considered an asset.


• Collaborative team player who supports project teams and drives execution.


• Strong communicator comfortable working with senior stakeholders.


• Proactive, autonomous, and highly organized.


• Able to manage multiple priorities in a dynamic environment.

In accordance with our compensation practices, ALTEN is providing the salary range associated with this opportunity. Final compensation will be determined after considering several factors, including professional experience, skill set, educational background, certifications, and geographic market conditions. The current target salary range for this role is $100,000 - $105,000 per year.
