Job summary

Modern Niagara is seeking a Project Manager to oversee the plumbing scope for a major hospital project in Mississauga. You will manage budgets, schedules, and resources, coordinating with foremen, subcontractors, and vendors to achieve financial and client-focused goals.

The role requires a mechanical engineering degree or equivalent, 5+ years in PM for mechanical contracting (hospital projects), and solid skills in reading drawings and MS Office.

Qualifications

  • Post-secondary degree in mechanical engineering or equivalent technical background.
  • Minimum 5 years’ experience as a Project Manager in mechanical contracting, specifically P3 hospital projects.
  • Experience reading and interpreting construction drawings and documents.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office and scheduling packages.
  • Ability to plan and manage project schedule.
  • Knowledge of construction costs and budgets.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work in office and field environments and maintain strong relationships.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Competent in conflict and crisis management.

Responsibilities

  • Manage budgets, procurement of equipment and subcontractors while aligning billing with KPI targets.
  • Participate in estimating turnover, preconstruction, and post-construction meetings.
  • Prepare monthly financial forecasts and participate in status reviews.
  • Attend client and construction meetings and disseminate information to workforce and suppliers.
  • Coordinate commissioning of equipment and systems.
  • Contribute to pre-construction by reviewing contracts and scopes.
  • Monitor job site progress and report status against plan.
  • Maintain safety standards on projects.
  • Create purchase orders for suppliers and subs.
  • Review labour plans with Foremen and adjust budgets as needed.
  • Communicate labour progress and make financial judgments monthly.
  • Keep project leadership aware of field progress against the plan.

Overview

Role Summary
The project manager will be overseeing the delivery of the plumbing scope for a major hospital project in Mississauga. This role sits within the major projects team and will be managing budgets, schedules, and resources to ensure successful delivery. This role works closely with foremen, subcontractors, and vendors to achieve financial and operational goals while maintaining strong client relationships.

Key Impact / Purpose
  • Manage project budgets, schedules, and resources to achieve financial targets.
  • Build and maintain strong client relationships while promoting Modern Niagara’s full-service offerings.
  • Ensure safety and quality standards are upheld throughout project execution.
Duties and Responsibilities
  • Responsible for managing the budget, procuring equipment and subcontractors while billing and collecting funds for their respective projects in line with KPI targets as determined by management on a quarterly basis.
  • Participate in estimating turnover meetings, preconstruction meetings and post construction meetings.
  • Complete monthly financial forecasting reports and participate in project status review meetings.
  • Attend client and construction meetings as required and disseminate the information to workforce, subcontractors and suppliers.
  • Manage and coordinate the equipment and systems commissioning process.
  • Contribute as necessary to the pre-construction process by reviewing contracts and determining project scope, planning and estimating prior to execution.
  • Attend job site progress walks and be aware of project construction status.
  • Maintain safety standards in relation to their projects.
  • Create purchase orders for suppliers and subcontractors.
  • Break out labour budget and review breakouts with Foremen.
  • Review Foreman labour plan with budget and input.
  • Communicate and confer with Foreman on the labour progress and make financial judgement calls in monthly review on final labour hours.
  • Project Manager is aware of field progress and communicates with foremen against the plan.
Must-Haves
  • Typically holds a post-secondary degree in mechanical engineering or equivalent trade/technical background.
  • Minimum 5 years’ experience working as a Project Manager in mechanical contracting, specifically in P3 hospital projects.
  • Experience in reading and interpreting construction drawings and documents.
  • Experience with Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook, PowerPoint) and computerized scheduling packages.
  • Demonstrates the ability to plan and manage project schedule.
  • Knowledge of construction costs and budgets.
  • Team player, energetic, resourceful.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work in an office and field environment and maintain excellent working relationships with others.
  • Competent in conflict and crisis management.
  • Excellent time and project management skills.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.

  • Understanding of all facets of the construction process.
  • Knowledge of basic accounting principles is an asset.

Compensation and Benefits

This is a replacement and the salary range is between $90,000 - $115,000.
