Qualifications

Job description

The Tla’amin Nation is a modern, forward-thinking, self-governing nation located on the beautiful upper Sunshine Coast (qathet Region).

Position Summary

Job Type: Full-time, permanent

Hours of Work: 8:30AM – 4:30PM, Monday - Friday

Reporting to: Director of Public Works & Capital Infrastructure

Department: Public Works & Capital Infrastructure

The Project Manager is responsible for the overall management of various construction projects related to infrastructure, housing, and land developments to meet cultural and community needs.

Key Responsibilities

Performs all duties and responsibilities in accordance with Tla’amin policies, standards, and Laws, as directed by the Director of Public Works & Capital Infrastructure. Maintains confidentiality as required pertaining to Citizens, clients, employees, and general matters of the Nation.

Responsibilities of this role include, but are not limited to:

  • Develops comprehensive project plans, including timelines, resource allocations and procurement strategies.
  • Develops and manages project budgets. Prepares and reports on costs, progress and forecasts.
  • Supports the request for proposal process and the evaluation and selection of contractors and subcontractors based on the criteria outlined in the RFP including qualifications, experience and cost effectiveness.
  • Oversees construction activities ensuring alignment to project schedules and specifications ensuring best practices in sustainable construction methods.
  • Monitors the work performed to ensure the work meets project, quality, environmental and safety standards.
  • Conducts sites inspections, resolves issues and mitigates project risks.
  • Ensures all necessary permits are obtained.
  • Monitors project progress and reports on project status including milestones, budget updates and any significant developments or risks.
  • Ensures compliance with all relevant local, provincial, and federal regulations as well as Tla’amin policies and laws.
  • Provide leadership and guidance to the project/construction team. Conducts regular meetings to facilitate communication, address challenges and to meet project objectives.
  • Establishes proactive working relationships with department managers and various consultants/contractors.
  • Collaborates with architects, engineers, electricians and other specialists.
  • Manages construction project documentation, including contracts, permits, drawings and change orders.
  • Works interactively and proactively with the Tla’amin community and Tla’amin Government stakeholders.
  • Ensures contractor hiring practices promote employment and training opportunities for Tla’amin people.
  • Carries out project evaluations and assessments to identify areas for improvement and implements necessary corrective measures.
  • Other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Training, Education, Experience

  • Diploma or degree in Construction Management or related field.
  • 2 or more years experience managing construction projects and 2 or more years of relevant experience in new construction activities (acquired within the last 4 years).
  • An equivalent combination of education and experience will be considered.
  • Experience working with various software and technology that assist in project management practices.
  • Specific experience within an organization supported by a structured project management process.
  • Experience working with Indigenous communities.
  • Acceptable Police Information Check prior to employment.
  • Valid B.C. Class 5 Driver’s License and acceptable driver’s abstract.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities

  • Strong knowledge of BC building codes, environmental regulations and permitting processes.
  • Proven ability to manage budgets and project schedules.
  • A strong technical aptitude, especially with technical writing skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as a team to meet project timelines.
  • Ability to effectively communicate in a professional manner in verbal, written, and visual forms.
  • Ability to read and understand maps, design drawings, schematics, and legal documents.
  • Genuine respect for Tla’amin Nation’s history and culture.

Working Conditions

Work takes place in an office setting as well as on construction sites and other community locations. Occasional travel and work outside of regular office hours may be required from time to time.
