Dagmar, a subsidiary of Bird Construction, specializes in civil projects across Ontario, including roads, bridges, transit, utilities, and public works.

Position Overview:

The Project Manager will report to the Construction Director and lead civil infrastructure projects, ensuring delivery on time, within budget, and to high standards. Responsibilities include project planning, scheduling, procurement, contract management, team oversight, and stakeholder relationship management. The role emphasizes risk mitigation, health, safety, environmental compliance, and continuous improvement.

This position is based in Ajax, Ontario, with site work in the Golden Horseshoe.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Manage the full project lifecycle from pre-construction to close-out, ensuring schedule, budget, and quality targets are met.
  2. Develop and execute strategic project plans aligned with client expectations and company goals.
  3. Lead pre-construction activities such as estimating, value engineering, procurement, and scheduling.
  4. Oversee tendering, subcontractor selection, and contract negotiations.
  5. Monitor budgets, forecasts, and costs, proactively managing risks and identifying savings.
  6. Ensure health, safety, and environmental standards are upheld, fostering a zero-incident culture.
  7. Collaborate with clients, consultants, subcontractors, and suppliers to build strong relationships.
  8. Proactively resolve project challenges with a solutions-oriented approach.
  9. Conduct constructability reviews, risk assessments, and scheduling sessions for project optimization.
  10. Administer contracts accurately, including change orders, RFIs, and documentation.
  11. Lead project meetings, ensuring effective communication and accountability.
  12. Mentor and support team members for professional growth.
  13. Maintain high morale and engagement within the project team.

Qualifications:

  • Degree or Diploma in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or related field.
  • Minimum of 5 years of leadership experience in civil infrastructure projects.
  • Estimating experience is an asset.
  • Proven success in delivering civil infrastructure projects.
  • Experience with joint ventures and stakeholder collaboration.
  • Strong skills in cost control, scheduling, and risk management.
  • Leadership ability to foster collaboration and accountability.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a dynamic environment.
