Job summary

Kiewit Energy Canada District is seeking a Site Human Resources Specialist to bring HR expertise directly to the jobsite. You will be the first point of contact for employees and supervisors, handling day-to-day HR needs and partnering with the centralized HR team for specialized support.

This full-time role offers field exposure, leadership collaboration, and opportunities to grow within one of North America’s top construction companies.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of hands-on HR experience, ideally in field-based or high-volume environments.
• Bachelor’s degree in HR or related field preferred.
• Sharp communicator and influencer with ability to build trust quickly.

• Resilient, resourceful, and adaptable to fast-paced on-site needs.
• Familiar with HRIS tools and handling confidential information.
• Flexibility for varying schedules including nights, weekends, and multiple locations.

Responsibilities

• Be the face of HR onsite for the project.
• Provide onboarding, payroll, benefits, and policy guidance to employees and supervisors.
• Partner with Employee Relations or Labor Relations on site concerns.
• Support leadership during investigations, injuries, emergencies, and other critical situations.
• Drive HR program execution in the field, including onboarding and full-cycle HR processes.
• Monitor engagement, retention, and productivity; escalate trends as needed.
• Deliver training and development opportunities for project employees.
• Act as liaison with HR Shared Services and Centers of Excellence to ensure service delivery.
• Educate project leaders on HR programs, wage reviews, bonuses, talent planning, succession, and recognition programs.
• Provide site-level feedback to HR leadership and participate in HR team touchpoints.
• Ensure compliance with HR policies, labor relations processes, and site-specific requirements.
• Utilize HR data, dashboards, and reports to guide decisions and protect confidentiality.

Now we're looking for aSite Human Resources Specialist to bring HR expertise directly to the jobsite. This isn't HR behind a desk; it's HR in the field, where you'll be the first point of contact for employees, supervisors, and project leaders. You'll handle the day-to-day HR needs of the project while partnering with our centralized HR team (1HR) and HR Business Partners for specialized support.

District Overview

Kiewit Energy Canada is headquartered in Calgary, Alberta. We are a major industrial contractor that work on projects that involve construction of oil & gas facilities such as oilsands processing, including steam‑assisted gravity drainage facilities, upgrading & refining, midstream facilities, power & co‑generation, terminal projects (ex. LNG, LPG, etc.), and major mine developments. We also have a Modular Yard facility in Edmonton, Alberta. Our engineering branch is a leading‑edge division that offers innovative engineering services for our current projects and new pursuits in Canada. Our design services group are based in Calgary and Houston offering expertise in process, piping, mechanical, electrical and civil/structural disciplines.

Location

For this role we will hire out of Edmonton with an initial assignment likely to be in the Edmonton area.

We have multiple projects in Western Canada and beyond you may be assigned to after your first assignment. The ability to travel and relocate as‑needed is key for this role. Responsibilities

  • Act as the liaison with HR Shared Services and Centers of Excellence to ensure smooth delivery of services.
  • Educate project leaders on HR programs and cycles — wage reviews, bonuses, talent planning, succession, and recognition programs.
  • Provide site‑level feedback to HR leadership to improve programs and services.
  • Join 1HR calls, field HR training sessions, and other HR team touchpoints to stay connected and aligned

  • Utilize HR data, dashboards, and reports to guide decisions and improve outcomes.
  • Maintain accurate employee records and ensure confidentiality of sensitive information.
