Summary
The Project Financial Analyst is responsible for providing financial oversight, analysis, and reporting for client projects delivered by CellCarta. This role plays a critical part in ensuring financial health, margin performance, scope adherence, and cost controls across the ICPC project portfolio. The analyst will collaborate with ICPC Project Managers, Finance stakeholders, Operations Leads, and senior leadership to drive project profitability and the overall financial and operational health of CellCarta studies.
Responsibilities
Financial Planning & Analysis (FP&A):
- Monitor customer project financial performance, identifying risks to project profitability and variances to sold margin;
- Conduct rigorous variance analyses utilizing project information including contracted scopes of work, pricing tables/appendices, bid grids, change orders, client invoices, timesheet data, and monthly financial reporting resulting from CellCarta’s forecasting and revenue recognition processes;
- Prepare analysis summaries and provide input as required into financial reporting for ICPC Project Managers and senior leaders within CellCarta’s Project Management and Finance organizations.
- Assist Project Managers in the oversight and management of direct labor and consumable costs billed by CellCarta project teams to client projects to assure study delivery occurs in accordance with contracted SoW, timeline, and budget;
- Participate in monthly ICPC project performance reviews as well as forecasting and revenue recognition conduct for assigned studies;
- Proactively identify scope creep and potential changes in scope as part of CellCarta’s monthly project performance review cycle. Support Project Managers in the development of change orders, invoicing, and project margin reset activities as required.
Stakeholder Collaboration & Decision Support:
- Partner with Project Managers to flag and investigate sources of margin leakage. Perform root cause analysis and define corrective actions in concert with Project Managers / Operational stakeholders which will remediate profitability erosion upon implementation by CellCarta project teams;
- Utilize financial analyses to prepare and present financial insights to CellCarta senior leadership, Project Managers, Operational teams and Shared Services functions (i.e. Sales, Client Services, etc.);
- Assist in financial decision-making through the development of project-level financial models as requested by ICPC Project Managers and/or Finance Business Partners.
Qualifications & Skills
- Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting, Economics, or Business Administration (MBA or CPA preferred);
- 3-5 years of experience in project-based financial analysis and project accounting within life sciences or healthcare environments. CRO / biopharma industry experience is strongly recommended.
Technical Skills:
- Proficiency in financial software / ERP system use (e.g. Oracle, SAP, Microsoft Dynamics, etc.) and project management platforms (e.g. MS Project, Planview [experience with AdaptiveWork is preferred]);
- Ability to efficiently navigate business intelligence systems and analytics tools (e.g. Tableau, Zoho, Power BI is preferred);
- Experience in report generation and custom report creation within CRM systems (e.g. HubSpot, Salesforce is preferred) and employee time-keeping solutions;
- Advanced Excel skills, including financial modeling, pivot tables, and macros;
- Knowledge of cost accounting, budgeting, forecasting, revenue recognition (including ASC 606 requirements), and variance analysis.
Soft Skills:
- Deep proficiency in the gathering and synthesis of project financial information from disparate data sources and systems;
- Ability to make accurate, data-driven decisions and formulate recommendations based on high-quality analysis of project financial information;
- Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities;
- Excellent communication and presentation skills (both oral and written);
- Self-starter with the ability to work independently while collaborating effectively as a member of a cross-functional team in a fast-paced environment;
- Strong customer-service orientation, organizational and time-management skills with high attention to detail.
Working Conditions
