Qualifications

• Bachelor's or master's degree in engineering or related field.
• Minimum 10 years of engineering management experience.

• Excellent communication in English; French is an asset.

• Define project goals, timelines, and deliverables with Project Delivery.
• Oversee the engineering project lifecycle and resource management.
• Oversee the Project Design Execution Plan and cross-disciplinary coordination.
• Review contracts to identify deliverables and obligations.
• Monitor progress, mitigate risks, and resolve issues.
• Prepare monthly project reports for the Engineering Management Practice director.
• Provide technical guidance and ensure best practices.
• Promote value engineering and continuous improvement.
• Collaborate with clients, architects, vendors, contractors and regulators.

Job Description Overview The Project Engineering Manager will join the Engineering Management practice within the Technical Professional Organization (TPO) of Engineering Services Canada. The Project Engineering Manager will play a lead role in the delivery of Engineering Services on large and complex projects (generally Class 3 & 4 projects) while also supporting the growth of the Engineering Management practice. Reporting to the Director of Operations of the Engineering Management practice, the Project Engineering Manager will be assigned to a project. The ideal candidate will possess strong leadership skills, exceptional technical expertise, multi-disciplinary engineering experience, and a proven track record of managing engineering of large-scale projects.

Your role

Engineering Planning and Execution:

• Collaborate with Win Work and Market Lead to define proposal timelines, deliverables and efforts, ensuring alignment with client requirements and overall business objectives.
• Collaborate with Project Delivery team to define project goals, timelines, and deliverables, ensuring alignment with client requirements and overall business objectives.
• Oversee the engineering project lifecycle, including design, development, testing, and implementation, while managing resources effectively.
• Oversee the Project Design Execution Plan.
• Oversee the inter‑disciplinary technical coordination.
• Review contract documents to ensure all deliverables and obligations associated with the scope of work are fully understood and identified.
• Review work hour estimate for the project and ensure budget and schedule are adhered to.
• Monitor project progress, identify and mitigate risks, and resolve any issues or bottlenecks that may impact project timelines or quality.
• Prepare and submit project monthly reporting to the Engineering Management Practice director.

Technical Expertise and Quality Assurance:

• Provide technical guidance and expertise to the engineering team, ensuring the use of industry best practices and standards.
• Conduct regular reviews and quality assessments of engineering deliverables, ensuring compliance with project requirements, specifications, and quality standards.
• Promotes a Value Engineering culture throughout the project life cycle.
• Promote continuous improvement initiatives to enhance engineering processes, methodologies, and tools, driving efficiency and productivity.
• Actively act in the role of Engineering Manager on a major project.

Stakeholder Collaboration:

• Collaborate closely with internal and external stakeholders, including clients, architects, vendors, contractors, and regulatory authorities, to ensure project success.
• Engage in effective communication, providing regular engineering updates, addressing concerns, and managing expectations to foster strong client relationships.
• Actively participate in meetings, presentations, and technical discussions, representing the engineering team and providing expert insights and recommendations.

About you

• Bachelor’s or master’s degree in engineering or a related field with 20+ years of experience in a relevant field.
• Minimum 10 years of experience in engineering management, overseeing complex engineering projects and leading multidisciplinary teams.
• Proven project management skills, including the ability to prioritize tasks, manage resources, and deliver projects within budget and on schedule.
• Familiarity with relevant engineering software, tools, and technologies.
• Ability to obtain relevant professional designation in multiple jurisdictions across Canada.
• Strong technical expertise in a relevant engineering discipline, with a deep understanding of engineering principles, methodologies, and best practices.
• Excellent leadership and people management skills, with the ability to inspire, unite and motivate team members to achieve project goals.
• Exceptional problem‑solving and decision‑making abilities, with a keen eye for detail and a commitment to delivering high‑quality results.
• Effective communication skills, both verbal and written, with the ability to present complex technical information to diverse audiences (both French and English are an asset).
