Job description

What will you be doing!

  • Defining the technical scope of work to satisfy Project needs, including technical approach and methods.
  • Preparing technical scopes of work for contracting external engineering agencies.
  • Preparing technical scopes of work for contracting out commissioning.
  • Ensuring all technical activities are defined in a Work Breakdown Structure and included in the project schedule.
  • Utilizing subject matter experts to provide detailed technical reviews and advice for key technical decisions for the project.
  • Making technical decisions, in cooperation with and support of the Delegated Design Authority and Facility Authority, that affect the Project.
  • Ensuring detailed design requirements have been completed.
  • Performing technical oversight at all stages of the project life cycle; Initiation, Planning, design, fabrication/construction, installation, commissioning, and closeout.
  • Reporting schedule and budget performance of Projects engineering and technical activities through the tools and methods specified by the Project Manager.
  • Ensuring consistent communication with the Delegated Design Authority and Facility Authority on all technical matters for the project.
  • Providing technical input to support the Subcontractor's developed design and fabrication.
  • Performing timely reviews of submitted drawings and documentation during all phases of the project.
  • Performing engineering surveillance of Subcontractor activities, both on site and at Subcontractor facilities.
  • Other duties as assigned by your manager.

What we are looking for:

  • Education
    • Bachelor (Honours) degree in Engineering or Science from a University of recognized standing.
    • Must be a member or eligible for membership with Engineers Geoscientists of Manitoba (EGM) as a Registered Professional Engineer.
  • Experience
    • 10 or more years’ experience within the nuclear industry, ideally in work associated with the waste management, decommissioning and/or processing systems.
    • Experience providing technical leadership to professional and technical resources.
    • Experience resolving complex technical challenges, from both a strategic and execution-level perspective.
    • Experience with Nuclear power generation facilities and/or laboratories is beneficial.
    • Experience with Demolition and Deactivation of commercial power generation or industrial manufacturing and processing facilities is beneficial.
  • Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
    • Knowledge of CSA S350-M1980, Code of Practice for Safety in Demolition of Structures, is an asset.
    • Knowledge of the guidelines by The Association of Professional Engineers and Geoscientists of the Province of Manitoba (APEGM) for demolition of buildings and structures is an asset.
    • Knowledge of specifications from Manitoba Infrastructure and Transportation 1020 on the demolition of buildings and structures, as well as engineered plans and documents described therein, is an asset.
    • Demonstrated knowledge of engineering codes and standards used in the design, construction, and commissioning of nuclear and non-nuclear facilities.
    • Demonstrated knowledge of CSA N286/N285 quality standards.
    • Sound knowledge of the National Building Code, National Fire Code, and other relevant codes and standards used in the design, construction, and decommissioning of nuclear and non-nuclear facilities.
    • Sound knowledge of nuclear decommissioning activities and industry standard techniques used to safely decommission nuclear facilities.
    • Strong technical knowledge of remote tooling and remote operations.
    • Strong knowledge of radiation protection principles and practices is considered an asset.
    • Sound working knowledge of project management principles.
    • Excellent written communication skills. Proven history of producing high quality technical documents.
    • Demonstrated knowledge of technical methods and resources required for the planning and execution of commissioning work.
    • Ability to work collaboratively within a team environment, with stakeholders from across a largescale organization.
  • Security Clearance Eligibility Required
    • Reliability Status with Site Access Security Clearance (SASC), which has a minimum requirement of 3-5 years of verifiable history in Canada, Australia, New Zealand, the United States and/or the United Kingdom. CNL implements security screening in accordance with the Treasury Board of Canada Secretariat's “Standard on Security Screening” and the “Policy on Government Security.”

Working Conditions:

  • We have a compressed work week, which consists of a four-day work week and ten hours a day, starting at 6 am.
  • Hearing protection usage is required for occasional visits to noisy construction/demolition environments.
  • Walking and navigating a construction and demolition environment with required personal protective equipment (safety boots, hard hats, safety glasses and reflective clothing).
