The Project Engineer/Technologist is responsible for providing civil engineering consulting for a variety of municipal engineering projects, including planning, design, project management, contract administration and budgeting, for public and private sector clients.

At Catterall & Wright, we have different levels of Project Engineers/Technologists. The types of projects and the level of responsibility will depend on the candidate’s qualifications.

Responsibilities

  • Design and manage projects of routine to moderate complexity, including complete specification and project manuals for various Civil Engineering projects
  • Gather and/or coordinate the collection of relevant data and information to conduct detailed analysis using acceptable tools and standards
  • Prepare technical reports
  • Instruct drafter in creating drawings, as required
  • Develop and/or update technical documents and/or technical resource tools for internal use, as required
  • Ensure internal project management documentation and databases (schedules, prices, client information, client contract, internal engineering budget, proposal scope, etc.) are maintained
  • Act as or work with Project Manager by coordinating with contractor on project schedule, cost, deliverables/scope. Ensure these items are well understood and executed as planned
  • Liaise with Survey Team, CAD team and other team members to meet construction needs
  • Build/retain existing client relationships and seek out new opportunities through communication, meetings and other networking opportunities
  • May oversee the work of other project engineers/technologists.

Qualifications

• Must be authorized to work in Canada

• Bachelor’s degree in Civil, Municipal or Environmental Engineering or Technical Diploma

• Depending on the level of responsibility

Level 2:

Working towards a Professional Engineer (P. Eng.) or Professional Technologist (P.Tech.) designation

Minimum of 1 year industry experience

Level 3:

Professional Engineer (P. Eng.) or Professional Technologist (P.Tech.) designation

5-7 years industry experience

An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered

Skills/Abilities

  • Knowledge of municipal infrastructure construction, including but not limited to, water & sewer, roadways, lagoons and site grading projects
  • Knowledge and experience in construction processes and sequencing
  • Experience with civil engineering principles, specifically in the municipal, transportation, water and/or earth work disciplines, including general civil construction practices
  • Ability to interpret design calculation spreadsheets and their intent when troubleshooting historical projects
  • Ability to write technical reports
  • Good understanding and/or proficiency in project management and contract administration principles
  • Knowledge of computer systems and the ability to work with a variety of software applications, including file management applications and the Microsoft Office Suite; XPSWMM or GIS skills an asset
  • Familiarity with small-scale drone operation an asset
