Job summary

Stantec is seeking a Project Engineer in our Alberta transportation practice to contribute to local, regional, and national projects. You will work with senior project managers and design teams to deliver design plans, studies, and cost estimates, while coordinating with clients and sub consultants.

The role requires 8+ years of experience, PE eligibility, and strong leadership and communication skills. A hybrid work arrangement is available with in-office presence based on project needs.

Qualifications

• Minimum 8 years’ experience in engineering and project implementation for transportation facilities.
• Professional Engineer in Alberta or eligible for licensing.
• Experience in geometric design of highways, streets and rural roads; drainage design is a plus.
• Experience with AutoCAD, Civil 3D, MicroStation, InRoads and/or OpenRoads software is an asset.
• Experience in cost estimating, tender preparation, and contract administration on transportation projects.
• Ability to manage projects and multidisciplinary teams.
• Strong oral and written communication skills with attention to detail and accuracy.
• Strong leadership and team-building skills.

Responsibilities

• Lead development of design plans and assist with preparation of specifications and quantity estimates.
• Prepare engineering reports and technical studies.
• Coordinate with client project managers and design teams including sub consultants.
• Provide experienced and skilled engineering and management of transportation projects from initiation through construction.

Your Opportunity

Our Transportation practice has an immediate requirement for a Project Engineer in our Alberta offices. We are looking for a highly motivated individual who can work in a team environment and want to be involved in exciting local, regional, and national projects. The successful candidate will work directly with senior project managers and design teams to delivery our current and future projects.

Opportunity provides for a hybrid work environment. In office presence is expected based on project needs, client meetings, and team collaboration.

Your Key Responsibilities

• Lead the development of design plans and assist with preparation of technical specifications and quantity estimates as required.
• Prepare engineering reports and technical studies.
• Experience preparing grading and surfacing designs with Alberta Transportation and Economic Corridors is an asset.
• Provide experienced and skilled engineering and management of various transportation projects from initiation of planning through construction.
• Coordination with client project managers and design teams including sub consultants for effective project delivery.
• Working with other transportation staff and departments to complete projects.

Your Capabilities and Credentials

• A minimum of 8 years’ experience in engineering and project implementation with experience in the design of transportation-related facilities.
• Registered as a Professional Engineer in the Province of Alberta (or eligible for licensing).
• Experience in geometric design of provincial highways, streets and rural roads; drainage design or construction administration is an asset.
• Experience with AutoCAD, Civil 3D, MicroStation, InRoads and/or OpenRoads software is an asset
• Experience in cost estimating, tender preparation, and contract administration on transportation projects.
• Ability to manage projects and teams of different disciplines.
• Strong oral and written communication skills and place a high emphasis on attention to detail and accuracy.
• Strong leadership and team building skills.

Position will primarily work in an office setting; may require some field work.
