Job summary

Jobtailor is seeking a pipeline design engineer in Canada to support the design of pipeline systems, including routing, tie-ins, and facility interfaces. You will develop P&IDs and schematics and assist with line sizing, material selection, and valve site design.

The role involves design reviews, field updates, and coordination across engineering disciplines to ensure quality and compliance. Required background includes 2+ years in pipeline or oil & gas projects, familiarity with CSA Z662 and

Qualifications

  • 2+ years of engineering experience in pipeline or oil & gas projects.
  • Direct experience supporting pipeline design or pipeline facilities engineering is required.
  • Experience within EPC/EPCM or owner/operator environments is preferred.
  • Exposure to mainline pipelines, gathering systems, or facility tie-ins is an asset.
  • Reading and interpreting P&IDs, isometrics, pipeline drawings, and specifications.
  • Knowledge of CSA Z662, ASME B31.3/B31.1, and applicable API standards.
  • Proficiency with AutoCAD, Plant 3D, Navisworks, Excel, Word and Bluebeam.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to engineering quality.

Responsibilities

  • Support the design of pipeline systems, including routing, tie-ins, and facility interfaces.
  • Develop and interpret P&IDs and pipeline schematics.
  • Assist with line sizing, pressure system considerations, and material selection.
  • Contribute to the design of valve sites, pigging facilities, and pipeline appurtenances.
  • Support pipeline-related facility design, including metering, compression, and pumping systems.
  • Prepare and maintain line lists, valve lists, MTOs, and Bills of Materials.
  • Support engineering drawings and pipeline design packages.
  • Prepare equipment datasheets and technical documentation.
  • Participate in design reviews and constructability discussions.
  • Coordinate with process, civil, electrical, and other engineering disciplines.
  • Assist with Material Requisitions and Scopes of Work.
  • Support RFQ/RFP processes and vendor coordination.
  • Participate in Technical Bid Evaluations.
  • Review vendor drawings for compliance with design requirements.
  • Provide engineering support during construction and commissioning.
  • Assist with field walkdowns, redlines, and as-built updates.
  • Support troubleshooting and resolution of design issues during execution.
  • Contribute to change management and project documentation.

Job description

Requirements

  • Working knowledge of pipeline systems and piping design principles
  • Familiarity with mechanical systems associated with pipeline infrastructure
  • Knowledge of CSA Z662, ASME B31.3/B31.1, and applicable API standards
  • Ability to read and interpret P&IDs, isometrics, pipeline alignment drawings, and specifications
  • Experience with AutoCAD, Plant 3D, or similar design tools
  • Experience with Navisworks or other 3D model review tools
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Word, and Bluebeam
  • Degree in Mechanical Engineering
  • Registered or eligible as an Engineer in Training (EIT)
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to engineering quality
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, design-focused EPCM environment
  • Effective communication with engineers, project teams, and vendors
  • Proactive, accountable, and motivated to build pipeline-specific expertise
