A unique opportunity to live and work in the Canadian Rocky Mountains; WSP’s Canmore office is seekinga Project Engineer or Civil Technologist to join our Land Development and Municipal Engineering team.
Based in downtown Canmore - complete with mountain views and just 20 minutes from the iconic Banff National Park, our team is responsible for a diverse range of work in the region, including but not limited to award winning and innovative Municipal, Civil Land Development and Transportation projects.
Reporting to the Manager in Canmore, this position’s responsibilities include working on a wide variety of projects in terms of type and scale including municipal water, wastewater, drainage, roadway infrastructure, and site servicing projects for public and private clients, including planning, design, and construction administration services. As a key member of the team, you will work closely with designers, engineers and project managers as well as work directly with clients, contractors and regulatory agencies.

What you can expect to do here:
- You will work on projects from inception to completion, overseeing the process from design and construction to final use within the community.
- Lead and support engineering activities for various multi-disciplinary projects from concept to construction as part of a diverse team of Project Managers and Technical Experts to deliver exciting projects in the local area.
- Engage and coordinate with clients, contractors, project team members, stakeholders, and the public on diverse projects.
- Perform preliminary and detailed design of infrastructure, including stormwater management, sanitary sewers, water networks, roadways, active transportation networks, and grading.
- Conduct preliminary and detailed contract administration and field reviews for projects under construction.
- Participate in all project development stages, from concept to client handover; prepare and coordinate technical reports, drawings, specifications, and contract documents; provide support throughout the tender process; and assist with managing construction projects.
- Prepare analyses, reports, designs, drawings, specifications, cost estimates, presentations, and reports as required.
- Have the opportunity to grow professionally and develop and enhance existing skills while delivering engineering projects in line with client requirements and industry best practices.
- Coordinate and collaborate with Project Managers and Technical staff located in various WSP offices.
What you’ll bring to WSP:
- An undergraduate degree in civil engineering from an accredited university or a Civil Technologist Diploma
- 5+ years of progressive experience in the design of municipal infrastructure and land development projects, is preferred although all levelsare encouraged to apply
- Registration in good standing with APEGA or ASET, or eligibility to be registered
- Knowledge of local land development markets with established local client relationships is an asset
- Familiarity with local construction specifications, materials, methods and processes is considered an asset;
- Experience in working on land development private sector and/or public municipal infrastructure projects would be considered an asset;
- Highly motivated, hardworking and enthusiastic team player;
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills and a flexible attitude are a must; and
- Capable of working independently and as part of a team.
- Computer skills including word, excel, PDF/Bluebeam markups and other Windows applications. Civil3D and AutoCAD skills would be considered a strong asset
