Valard Construction is seeking a Project Engineer to join our Substations and Renewables team. Reporting to the Manager of Substation Technical Services, the Junior Project Engineer will be responsible for strengthening relationships with internal teams and clients, serving as the primary technical contact when needed. Responsibilities include offering construction support, generating non-compliance reports, addressing inquiries from the construction team, and ensuring project documentation is completed accurately. The role also involves identifying and proposing solutions for issues, reviewing specifications, drawings, and test reports to maintain high-quality design standards.

Key (Core) Duties and Responsibilities
  • Drafting and planning project scope, proposals, estimates, change notices, budgets, and related documents
  • Developing material and construction specifications
  • Preparing estimates, supporting procurement, conducting material take-offs, requisitions, design packages, and technical evaluations
  • Tracking material reception and inventory
  • Maintaining and enhancing relationships with internal teams and clients
  • Providing construction support, writing non-compliance reports, and responding to information requests from the construction team while ensuring proper documentation
  • Identifying, recommending, and implementing solutions to problems
  • Reviewing specifications, drawings, and test reports to ensure high-quality design standards
  • Managing the Quality Plan and verifying the validity of related documents
  • Acting as a liaison and technical resource for all construction personnel on the project
  • Performing other duties as assigned
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
  • B.Sc. or M.Sc. in Electrical, Structural, Civil Engineering, or a related field from a recognized institution
  • Minimum 3 years of experience in a technical role
  • Registered Engineer or eligible for registration as an EIT with a Canadian engineering organization
  • Ability to work effectively in a team environment
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Willingness to travel and work on a rotation basis
  • Valid Class 5 driver's license in good standing
