The team plays a pivotal role in overseeing the implementation of various technology deployments including communication, navigation, surveillance, and air traffic
management systems; crucial for maintaining the safety and efficiency of Canada’s civil airspace.
As a Project Engineer reporting to a Deployment Manager, you will operate within a dynamic, multi-disciplinary team environment. Your responsibilities will encompass the formulation of plans to facilitate the completion of large capital projects, developing site and system designs/specifications to
meet operational requirements and procuring products/services necessary to implement solutions. This role involves active engagement with stakeholders both within and outside the organization.
Additionally, you will collaborate with and knowledge share with junior engineers as part of the Deployment Services team.
The Project Engineer is a fully qualified Engineer with a thorough knowledge of project delivery methodologies, construction design and management, and consultant/contract management. This knowledge is supplemented with significant experience working with systems in the field environment
through design, installation, project implementation, and life-cycle support, and incorporates a thorough understanding of system interrelationships and operational use. Job Description

Key Accountabilities:

  • Prepare detailed plans, tender drawings, and specifications for a diverse project portfolio.
  • Project types may include:

o Communication Sites

o Navigation Sites

o Surveillance Infrastructure

o Telecommunications Infrastructure

  • Provide technical support for national capital program development and formulation of national strategies to meet operational needs.
  • Develop plans to meet project or site-specific requirements.
  • Prepare detailed plans, system designs, and specifications for the provision and implementation of electronic systems to meet operational, technical and safety requirements.
  • Manage large multi-disciplined projects with dollar values usually less than $500K, but occasionally in the $500K to $1M range.
  • Provide prompt assistance when requested to investigate technical problems with in-service operational systems.
  • Actively promote a Safety and Quality culture which ultimately will be reflected in the quality of the finished product delivered to client groups.

Job Requirements

Education:

  • B. Eng (Electrical, Systems, Civil, Mechanical, Structural) from a recognized University
  • Professional Certification: Member or eligible to be a member in a Professional Engineering Association in Canada.

Experience:

  • 2-3 years work experience in the planning, design and implementation of safety or mission critical projects.
  • Extensive experience designing and implementing communication sites or similar remote infrastructure.
  • Extensive experience implementing communication towers or similar infrastructure.
  • Extensive experience delivering medium to large scale projects without close supervision.
  • Extensive experience working with clients to gather requirements/design specifications.
  • Experience in consultant management and contract administration.
  • Experience scheduling and monitoring construction projects.

Knowledge:

  • Strong knowledge of construction methodologies and site implementation.
  • Strong knowledge of engineering practices related to designing communication sites, towers, or other remote infrastructure.
  • Strong knowledge of theory and principles of engineering science and of the practices in specialized field of engineering.
  • Strong knowledge of Professional engineering standards and practices.
  • Thorough knowledge and demonstrated skills in project management methodologies, techniques and disciplines for large projects.

Abilities:

  • Ability to apply knowledge and experience to develop new solutions, designs and plans.
  • Ability to systematically analyze and resolve complex problems.
  • Ability to plan, conduct and/or review comprehensive studies, to prepare and/or review reports on specific aspects of unusual problems with existing or proposed operations or facilities.
  • Ability to analyze, investigate, evaluate, make decisions and implement solutions.
  • Ability to write specification, standards, statements of work and general engineering documents.

  • Position classified hybrid and requires minimum of three (3) days on site.
  • This position requires occasional travel across the country.
