Due to continued rapid growth and expansion of the Water Group in Ontario, we are seeking a Project Director – Water to be based in our Waterloo office, with diversified experience in Business Development, project capture planning and proposal writing, design and management of municipal projects including Linear Infrastructure (sewers & water systems).

Responsibilities include:

  • Working with our Water Practice Business Development group to expand our water infrastructure market share in Ontario. Activities include participating in client marketing sessions, developing market growth strategies, executing project capture plans, and preparing technical/financial proposals.
  • As Project Director, providing technical, financial, and project management leadership, working directly with Project Managers, Senior Engineers, and technical teams to execute various projects. This includes direct communication with clients and sub-consultants.
  • Supporting GHD’s Water business in Western Canada, particularly in the Greater Vancouver area, which may involve business/client development and support on proposals and project execution.
  • Ensuring project and quality deliverables meet or exceed GHD’s internal and external client quality objectives.
  • Leading and participating in training and mentoring initiatives for junior and intermediate staff, staff performance evaluations, and career development strategies.
  • Driving GHD’s safety culture and performance by leading by example.

Skills, Competencies, and Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering.
  • Ontario Professional Engineer Designation; British Columbia Professional Engineer Designation is an asset.
  • 15+ years post-graduate experience, with at least 10 years in water/sewer projects; trenchless and rehabilitation experience is an asset.
  • Proven track record in business development, project capture planning, and proposal writing.
  • Experience in technical and business leadership and management of linear infrastructure and water projects and teams, through design and construction phases.
  • Ability to lead detailed design and management teams for major Linear Infrastructure projects.
  • Experience with sewer/water condition assessment, rehabilitation, and trenchless installation preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of construction methods, logistics, equipment, and methodology selection.
  • Familiarity with cost estimating and project scheduling for Linear Infrastructure construction.
  • Experience in risk management analysis, evaluation, and mitigation techniques.
  • Comfort with detailed technical, financial, and client presentations related to project risks.
  • Experience in preparing detailed design reports and construction reporting.
  • Excellent communication and liaison skills with technical disciplines, professionals, clients, and third parties.
  • Strong verbal and report writing skills.
  • Problem-solving, decision-making, and teamwork skills.
