Leading infrastructure contractor is seeking a Project Director to join their Major Projects team across Canada, focusing on rail projects in Vancouver BC, Toronto ON, and Calgary AB. Reporting to the Vice President, the Project Director will be responsible for the operational and financial performance of major rail projects. Key Responsibilities of Project Director
- Serve as a key member of a multidisciplinary team that develops, designs, constructs, and maintains major railway schemes. Participate in pursuit teams to secure major project awards.
- Ensure the safe and profitable performance of signalization and rail electrification construction projects.
- Approve expenditures and proposal pricing within authority limits.
- Develop project execution plans and schedules to manage performance effectively.
- Provide technical guidance in rail operations, contract management, standards, procedures, and project execution and construction activities.
- Resolve project-related disputes with clients, partners, subcontractors, and the public.
- Report issues related to financial performance, workload, legal matters, and opportunities to the SVP Utilities and project executives.
- Establish a management team with clearly defined responsibilities across all operational aspects.
- Prepare staff development and succession plans for key positions.
- Maintain positive relationships with major clients, partners, and unions.
- Ensure all project activities align with corporate and divisional strategic plans, policies, and procedures.
Required Knowledge and Skills of Project Director
- Engineering degree or technical diploma, or equivalent training and experience.
- At least 5 years of construction experience with rail-related projects.
- Knowledge and experience in Electrification and Plant (E&P), including Overhead Line Equipment (OLE), 25kV Power Distribution, and Low Voltage Electrical systems.
- Ability to evaluate employees and deploy field resources on projects of varying size and complexity.
- Experience establishing effective project controls to monitor productivity and ensure adherence to estimates and bids.
- Project management expertise on complex joint venture or public-private partnership projects.
- Strong communication skills to build and maintain relationships with officials, boards, subordinates, peers, and the public.
- Proven leadership and sound business judgment.
- Ability to plan, review, assign, and evaluate work of subordinate managers.
