WSP has an opportunity for a Technical Director to join our Remediation Program Management team based in Vancouver, British Columbia (open to other locations within British Columbia for the right candidate). The team is a national group serving large clients across Canada, known for providing top-quality technical work and maintaining a strong backlog of projects. Many clients are long-term and seek WSP's expertise in managing site assessment and remediation.

The Technical Director (with an engineering, geoscience, or relevant background) will be responsible for the technical direction of a large portfolio, primarily involving downstream oil and gas sites, with potential support for midstream and upstream sites.

It is expected that candidates have demonstrable experience bringing complex contaminated sites to closure in British Columbia.

Responsibilities:

1. Review deliverables such as Phase 1 and Phase 2 Environmental Site Assessments, Detailed Site Investigations, regulatory forms, technical reports, background determinations, water use determinations, and screening level risk assessments.
2. Mentor Junior and Intermediate project managers, report authors, and field staff.
3. Support Project Managers with technical presentations and communication with clients and regulators.
4. Assist leadership with client management and uphold client objectives.
5. Contribute to Requests for Proposals as needed.
6. Conduct site visits to support field staff.
7. Lead by example in health and safety practices both in the field and office.

Qualifications:

1. Bachelor's degree in engineering, geoscience, or a relevant discipline.
2. 10-15 years of experience in technical direction of contaminated sites in British Columbia.
3. Eligibility or immediate eligibility to register as a Professional (e.g., P. Ag, P.Chem, P.Eng, P.Geo, RPBio) in BC.
4. Strong understanding of BC Contaminated Sites Regulation and Environmental Management Act; knowledge of Alberta regulations is an asset.
5. Experience in bringing sites to closure (with submissions in the last three years).
6. Aiming to become a Contaminated Sites Approved Professional within 1-2 years of employment.
7. Strong mentoring skills and a commitment to fostering an inclusive team environment.
8. Excellent communication skills (listening, speaking, writing).
9. Problem-solving skills with initiative and ability to identify alternative solutions.
10. Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Teams, PowerBI, and Oracle.
