Pacific Northern Gas Ltd. (PNG), a subsidiary of TriSummit Utilities Inc., owns and operates natural gas transmission and distribution systems in British Columbia's lower Peace River, west central, and north coast regions. PNG's western transmission line extends from the Enbridge gas transmission system north of Prince George along the Highway 16 and Highway 37 south corridors to Terrace and then onto the port communities of Kitimat and Prince Rupert, providing transportation and gas services to twelve communities and a number of industrial facilities. In the Province's northeast, Pacific Northern Gas (N.E.) Ltd. provides gas transmission and distribution service in the Dawson Creek, Fort St. John and Tumbler Ridge areas.
Reporting to the Manager Financial Systems and Controls, this position will be located in our Vancouver, BC office. The Project Cost Accountant is responsible for providing real-time project cost tracking while working closely with internal stakeholders to ensure costs are monitored, reviewed, accurately forecasted and that appropriate accruals are in place to ensure accuracy of financial data. Responsibilities include project cost reporting, ensuring budget adherence, forecasting and cost analysis.
What You Will Do:
- Develop and provide maintenance of project tracking tools.
- Maintain detailed project cost reports by confirming budgets, tracking expenses, collecting contract and invoice data, tracking daily time tickets to facilitate the identification of month-end accruals and ensuring all costs are accounted for.
- Oversee and assist with managing project budgets and forecasts to ensure effective budget management.
- Perform regular review of invoices, supplier contracts and purchase orders to ensure procurement controls are working effectively, including tracking progress and completion status.
- Prepare monthly project accruals.
- Perform project cost analysis, forecasting and financial reporting.
- Provide project financial management support by interacting directly with project staff and project management team and other internal stakeholders.
- Assist with monthly reporting to project managers and parent company.
- Perform other duties and special projects as required.
- Some travel to the project operations sites will be required.
What You Will Bring:- University degree or business diploma with applied accounting knowledge.
- Previous experience with capital reporting or construction project cost reporting is preferred.
- Experience and knowledge of the utility industry is an asset.
- Excellent interpersonal, organizational and planning skills with the ability to think strategically.
- Ability to manage multiple projects, tasks and deadlines in a highly detailed environment.
- Proven business acumen, with strong analytical skills, attention to detail, and decision-making ability.
- Approachable, flexible and able to adapt in a fluid work environment.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Excellent verbal, written and communication skills to effectively convey financial information.
- Advanced computer skills and experience with financial reporting systems and analytical tools including advanced Excel, Microsoft Office and JD Edwards.
Salary Range: $85,000 - $95,000 depending on background and experience.
