Project Controls Specialist - CNRL Horizon

The Project Controls Specialist is responsible for project management, contractual, and financial support and coordination to multiple, complex technical projects. Leads project team in cost forecasting, scheduling, and analysis.

Location: CNRL Horizon

Shift: 7/7 rotation or 14/14 rotation (compressed)

Travel: Flights provided from Edmonton and Calgary

Accommodation: Camp Provided

Duties:
  • Prepare and manage cost budgeting, forecasting, planning/scheduling, and estimating.
  • Apply advanced cost estimating methodologies for each cost element/WBS, and estimate the man hours, material costs, and other project costs.
  • Work with estimating to convert estimate into controlled project budget.
  • Reconcile actual costs against project forecast and budget.
  • Assist with maintaining project schedule using current project systems tool (Primavera).
  • Interface with client representatives to communicate and receive schedule and cost update information as needed.
  • Prepare project accruals and client invoicing.
  • Liaise with Accounts Receivable/Payable, Subcontract, and Procurement team members.
  • Review and approve project requisitions; verify cost coding, descriptions, estimated costs, and back-up documentation.
  • Prepare and lead project team in completing project shift/cost reports including budgets, change orders, cost incurred, EAC, and ETC.
  • Oversee the completion of project change order procedure and log.
  • Prepare various spreadsheet reports for project management.
  • Prepare internal cost reports for management on a monthly basis.
  • Communicate and advise project team on cost projections.
  • Review subcontractor daily Tickets & LEM’s, verifies client approvals.
  • Compile project subcontractor/vendor cost and man-hour data in reporting logs.
  • Organize and maintain project reporting files.
  • Review open commitments reports.
  • Lead project team with project close out activities.
  • Develop final report, and communicate with subcontractors/vendors for final invoicing.
  • Various other duties as requested by management.
Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s Degree preferred or equivalent relevant work experience.
  • 5+ years of progressive experience in project controls within a large global company.
  • 5+ years working within the engineering and construction services industry.
Skills:
  • Able to interact with all levels of management.
  • Advanced knowledge of project controls principles.
  • Strong technical and analytical skills.
  • Proficiency in use of MS Office products.
  • Strong knowledge of necessary software systems.
  • Advanced knowledge of software system capabilities and functionality.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines.
  • Recognized for having specialized depth or breadth of expertise within area of focus.
  • Skill in developing policy and procedure documentation.
  • Working knowledge of construction and engineering services is preferred.
  • Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of variable situations with limited standardization.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to teach others what they know and to transfer subject matter knowledge and understanding to other employees and/or internal customers regarding why work is performed the way it is and how it impacts the broader organization.
