Job summary

Potentia Renewables Inc. is seeking a Project Controller - Renewable Energy in Toronto with 3–7 years of experience in project controls and construction finance.

This hybrid role supports the Corporate Planning & Analysis department with budgets, forecasts, lender reporting, and cash flow management across multiple utility-scale projects. You will work closely with accounting, project managers and lenders to ensure accurate cost control and timely reporting, contributing to successful project

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business, Engineering, Economics, or a related field.
• 3–7 years of experience in project controls, project accounting, construction finance, or related field.

Responsibilities

• Manage project budgets and forecasts for utility-scale renewable energy projects throughout development, construction, and commissioning.
• Maintain commitment registers, track contract values, and reconcile purchase orders, invoices, and commitments.
• Prepare lender drawdown requests and supporting documentation; coordinate with lenders, engineers, project managers, and accounting teams.
• Develop and maintain project cash flow forecasts and monitor financing needs and drawdown status.

Reporting Relationships

The Project Controller - Renewable Energy will report to the Director, Corporate Planning & Analysis, and has no direct reports.

Accountabilities And Key Functions

The Project Controller is responsible for managing the financial aspects of utility-scale renewable energy projects throughout the development, construction, and commissioning phases.

Role & Responsibilities

Project Cost Management and Reporting

• Develop, maintain, and monitor project budgets and forecasts.
• Track actual expenditures, committed costs, and remaining budget across multiple projects.
• Analyze budget variances and prepare recommendations for corrective actions.
• Prepare monthly project financial reports and cost summaries for management.

Purchase Order & Commitment Management

• Maintain commitment registers and track contract values against approved budgets.
• Reconcile purchase orders, invoices, and contract commitments.

Construction Financing & Drawdowns

• Prepare lender drawdown requests and supporting documentation.
• Coordinate with lenders, independent engineers, project managers, and accounting teams.
• Track financing availability, funding schedules, and drawdown status.
• Support lender reporting and compliance requirements.

Cash Flow Forecasting

• Develop and maintain project cash flow forecasts.
• Monitor projected funding needs and financing requirements.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business, Engineering, Economics, or a related field.
• 3-7 years of experience in project controls, project accounting, construction finance, or related field.

Technical Skills

• Advanced Microsoft Excel skills.
• Experience with NetSuite or similar ERP systems.
• Experience with Datarails or other similar data platforms considered an asset.

Compensation

• Base salary range: $90,000 CAD.
• Target annual bonus: 10% target bonus.
• Compensation will vary depending on experience and qualifications.
