Job summary

The position requires advanced Excel and SAP experience, with a track record in cost control, forecasting, and managing large data sets. You will work with cross-functional teams to ensure accurate reporting and financial discipline

Qualifications

  • Advanced Excel skills including pivot tables, formulas, dashboards.
  • SAP experience and cost-control background required.
  • Experience with industrial turnarounds, outages, or capital projects.
  • Strong forecasting, budgeting, and financial reporting capabilities.
  • Ability to manage large sets of cost and schedule data with accuracy.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain and update cost control models and reporting tools.
  • Track actual costs vs budgets and PO commitments.
  • Develop forecast-at-completion projections.
  • Validate contractor LEM submissions for scope alignment.
  • Enter labor data and track workforce counts.
  • Produce daily, weekly, monthly cost reports for stakeholders.
  • Collaborate with Project Managers, Schedulers, and Finance.

Job description

Position Overview

The Project Controller supports the Project Manager throughout turnaround and major outage activities by providing real-time cost tracking, forecasting, reporting, and financial analysis. This role is responsible for maintaining and updating an Excel-based cost control model that integrates SAP actuals, contractor Labor, Equipment and Material (LEM) data, and schedule progress to accurately track costs against budget and forecast final project costs.

The successful candidate will validate contractor costs, monitor spending trends, track workforce performance, and align cost reporting with schedule progress. The Project Controller plays a key role in identifying cost risks, supporting decision-making, and ensuring effective financial management throughout the outage lifecycle.

Key Responsibilities
  • Maintain and update project cost control models and reporting tools.
  • Track actual costs against approved budgets and purchase orders.
  • Develop and maintain forecast-at-completion cost projections.
  • Collect, review, and validate contractor LEM submissions for accuracy and alignment with approved scope and schedule.
  • Perform cost tracking and data entry for contractor timesheets and labour records.
  • Monitor workforce counts and generate productivity and burn-rate reporting.
  • Analyze spending trends and identify potential cost overruns or financial risks.
  • Reconcile SAP cost data with contractor records and project forecasts.
  • Prepare and distribute daily, weekly, and monthly cost reports for project management and stakeholders.
  • Compile and incorporate safety metrics and operational statistics provided by project teams.
  • Participate in daily turnaround and project coordination meetings.
  • Work closely with Project Managers, Schedulers, Planners, Contractors, Operations, and Finance teams to ensure accurate and timely reporting.
  • Communicate expectations and requirements related to timesheet and cost submissions with vendors and contractors.
Required Qualifications & Skills
  • Advanced Microsoft Excel skills, including:
    • Complex formulas
    • Pivot tables
    • Data reconciliation
    • Dashboards and reporting tools
  • Strong SAP experience (required).
  • Experience supporting industrial turnarounds, outages, maintenance events, or capital projects.
  • Strong understanding of project cost control, forecasting, and financial reporting.
  • Ability to manage large volumes of cost, labour, and schedule data.
  • Exceptional attention to detail and commitment to data accuracy.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management abilities.
  • Ability to work independently in a fast-paced project environment.
