Job summary

Schaeffers Consulting Engineers in the GTA is seeking a motivated Project (Civil) Designer to join our team and lead design efforts on urban and greenfield developments.

Under the Senior Project Manager, you will prepare grading, servicing drawings, road and sewer design, and coordinate with the development team.

The ideal candidate brings 5+ years of experience, strong AutoCAD Civil 3D skills, and a collaborative approach to mentoring junior staff and delivering projects on time.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of relevant industry experience.
• Working knowledge of municipal design principles including servicing, grading, and stormwater management.
• Strong proficiency in AutoCAD and Civil 3D.
• Excellent organizational and communication skills; ability to mentor new graduates.

Responsibilities

• Design site plans and subdivisions in urban environments; identify constraints and develop solutions.
• Complete preliminary and detailed design work including earthwork, road, parking, grading, sewer, and watermain design.
• Use design software to improve speed and quality of designs and stay current with industry practices.
• Produce clear, professional drawings and reports communicating design intent.
• Delegate tasks to junior staff and support their growth.
• Balance project budgets and comply with agency approvals.
• Demonstrate advanced expertise in AutoCAD Civil 3D and subdivision/site plan design.
• Assist with quantity calculations, cost estimates, and contract administration as needed.
• Monitor project schedules and communicate with Project Manager and municipalities.
• Maintain project design records and files.
• P.Eng. or CET designation preferred.

Schaeffers Consulting Engineers is seeking a motivated and talented Project (Civil) Designer to join our team.

Working with the Senior Project Manager, you will prepare preliminary and detailed designs for urban and greenfield development projects across the GTA. Responsibilities include preparing grading and servicing drawings and coordinating related work with the development team.

We are seeking a Project Designer who brings more than technical expertise. The ideal candidate aspires to become a design leader and, through hard work and dedication, an integral member of our team of experienced designers and engineers.

Responsibilities

• Design site plans and subdivisions in urban environments. Identify governing project constraints and develop creative solutions that optimize the design.
• Complete preliminary engineering and detailed design work, including earthwork analysis, road and parking lot design, site grading, sewer design and analysis, and watermain design.
• Continuously explore new ways to use design software to produce faster, more efficient designs and remain at the forefront of industry practices.
• Produce clear, well-organized, professional drawings and reports that effectively communicate design intent.
• Delegate tasks to junior staff and support their skill development and professional growth.
• Strive to create positive outcomes through your work while balancing project budgets and agency approval requirements.
• Demonstrate advanced expertise in AutoCAD Civil 3D and in subdivision and site plan design.
• Apply a working knowledge of stormwater management practices and techniques.
• Experience with sewer design and hydraulic analysis of sewer systems is preferred.
• Assist with quantity calculations, cost estimates, and contract administration duties as required.
• Perform other project coordination and design-related duties assigned by the Project Manager.
• Monitor project schedules and design costs, and communicate relevant project information to the Project Manager, municipalities, and assigned staff.
• Maintain project design records and files.
• A P.Eng. or C.E.T. designation is preferred.

Requirements

• 5 years + relevant industry experience.
• Working knowledge of engineering principles and guidelines for municipal design, including servicing, grading, and stormwater management.
• Strong proficiency in AutoCAD and Civil 3D.
• Excellent organizational skills and the ability to work effectively in a team.
• Strong communication skills; experience mentoring new graduates is an asset.
• The ability to manage multiple projects and clients is an asset.
• A highly motivated approach and a commitment to continued growth as a designer and project manager.
