Job summary

The Walter Fedy Partnership is seeking a Civil Designer/Technologist to assist in developing engineering designs and drawings. This role is based in Kitchener, and teamwork alongside experienced professionals is essential to ensure high-quality outcomes in municipal development projects.

Ideal candidates will have a background in Civil Engineering or Civil Engineering Technology, experience with AutoCAD and Civil 3D, and a commitment to quality and client focus.

Qualifications

  • Graduate of a Civil Engineering or Civil Engineering Technology program.
  • Previous experience in a consulting engineering environment is an asset.
  • Knowledge in grading, servicing, and plan/profile drawing preparation.
  • Familiarity with land development, site plan, and municipal design.
  • Registered or eligible for registration with OACETT.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong work ethic and eagerness to learn.

Role at a Glance

The Civil Designer/Technologist is responsible for assisting in the development and preparation of engineering designs and drawings for private, land, and municipal development projects, utilizing AutoCAD and Civil3D, and ensuring design drawings conform to specifications and design data. Responsibilities include preparing construction drawings in compliance with established codes and standards, generating accurate plans and details with guidance from project managers and engineers, and maintaining technical files. Attention to detail is essential to ensure work meets high‑quality standards and adheres to Civil 3D / AutoCAD guidelines. This role involves completing assigned tasks in Civil 3D and/or AutoCAD under the supervision of more experienced team members. This role is based in‑office and is open to applicants interested in working at our Kitchener office.

What you will do
  • Assist in the preparation of engineering designs and drawings from preliminary concepts, sketches, engineering calculations, specification sheets and other data with minimal supervision using Civil 3D, AutoCAD, and other design software
  • Collaborate with project managers, engineers, and other team members to develop design solutions that meet client requirements and regulatory standards.
  • Ensures work product meets high-quality standards, ensuring compliance with standards
  • Perform basic calculations and analysis related to grading, drainage, utilities, and other aspects of civil engineering design.
  • Check and verify design drawings to conform to specifications and design data
  • Support the preparation of permit applications, environmental assessments, and other project documentation.
  • Maintain organized project files and documentation in accordance with company standards.
  • Participate in meetings and presentations with clients, stakeholders, and regulatory agencies as needed.
  • Stay informed about industry trends, best practices, and advancements in civil engineering technology.
  • Assist with various tasks and projects as assigned by supervisors or senior team members to support the overall success of the team and company objectives.
  • Demonstrate a strong commitment to our company values of quality, client focus, teamwork, sustainability, and community, integrating these principles into daily work practices and interactions with colleagues, clients, and stakeholders.
What you bring to the table
  • Graduate of a Civil Engineering or Civil Engineering Technology program.
  • Previous experience working in a consulting engineering environment would be an asset (including co‑op).
  • Knowledgeable in the preparation of grading, servicing, and plan/profile drawings.
  • Experience and knowledge in Civil 3D and AutoCAD.
  • Experience in land development, site plan, and /or municipal design is preferred.
  • Registered or eligible for registration with OACETT.
  • A team player with excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Eager to learn and take on new challenges, with a strong work ethic and desire to succeed.
