The Opportunity :

Our client, a leading general contractor specializing in high-rise residential, commercial, institutional, and industrial projects, is seeking a Project Accounting Manager to join their growing team. The Project Accounting Manager will oversee the delivery of construction projects as the lead finance manager, responsible for month-end close, work-in-progress reports, accounts payable, receivable, client billings, job costing, reconciliations, and supervising the Project Accountants.

What You’ll Be Doing :
  1. Assist the Controller in overseeing daily accounting operations, reviewing work such as month-end close, vendor accounts, and reconciliations, resolving issues, and escalating when necessary.
  2. Manage a small team, ensuring timely and accurate completion of tasks, providing oversight and review for accurate financial reporting.
  3. Collaborate with HR on workforce planning, recruitment, and resource management; support cross-training initiatives.
  4. Conduct performance evaluations, set goals, and provide feedback for team development.
  5. Lead month-end close activities, including reconciliations, financial reporting, cash flow forecasting, and reporting.
  6. Prepare work-in-progress reports, assess deferred revenue, and recommend revenue recognition adjustments.
What You'll Need to Be Successful :
  • Post-secondary diploma or degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field; CPA designation or in process is a strong advantage.
  • At least five years of experience in a project accounting role.
  • Strong analysis and reconciliation skills.
  • Ability to prioritize and meet deadlines.
  • Effective communication and organizational skills, with attention to detail.
  • Team player with strong interpersonal skills.
  • Problem-solving and critical thinking abilities.
  • Proficiency in MS Office (Excel and Word) and Adobe software.
  • Knowledge of accounting software; experience with eCMS ERP system is an asset but not required.
  • Construction industry experience is preferred.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and approach situations professionally and diplomatically.
