Job summary

Randstad Canada is seeking a Project Accountant to join the finance team in downtown Toronto. You will oversee financial administration for a portfolio of 40–45 active projects and report to the Project Accounting Team Lead, providing a bridge between project managers, leadership, and external stakeholders.

The role offers ownership of project portfolios with training on internal ERP systems and opportunities to advance in project-based finance within a collaborative team.

Qualifications

• 2+ years of hands-on project accounting experience in professional services.
• Strong revenue tracking, budgeting, and billing cycles for multiple projects.
• Advanced Excel skills including VLOOKUP and PivotTables; financial modeling.

Responsibilities

• Monitor and maintain the financial health of a portfolio of 40–45 projects (design/architectural).
• Track project budgets, line-item allocations, labor hours, sub-consultants, and expenses.
• Oversee invoicing, progress billings, cost tracking, and fee reconciliations.
• Meet with Project Managers to review performance, variances, billing, and unbilled work.
• Communicate financial matters clearly with project teams, leadership, and clients.
• Ensure accuracy in revenue recognition, fee schedules, and monthly closes.

Job description

Our client is looking for a Project Accountant to join our finance team in downtown Toronto. Reporting directly to the Project Accounting Team Lead and working alongside a collaborative team of four project accountants, you will oversee the financial administration and health of approximately 40 to 45 active projects.

This role serves as a vital financial bridge between Project Managers, leadership, and external stakeholders. It offers immediate ownership of project portfolios with full training provided on our internal ERP systems.

Key Responsibilities

• Monitor and maintain the ongoing financial health of a dedicated portfolio of 40–45 concurrent design and architectural projects.
• Track overall project budgets, line-item allocations, internal labor hours, sub-consultant fees, and direct project expenses.
• Oversee project-based invoicing, progress billings, cost tracking, fee reconciliations, and financial documentation.
• Meet regularly with Project Managers to review project performance, budget variances, billing schedules, and unbilled work.
• Manage clear, concise written and verbal communications with internal project teams, senior leadership, sub-consultants, and client representatives regarding financial matters.
• Ensure accuracy in project revenue recognition, fee schedules, and monthly financial closes.

Required Qualifications & Experience

• 2 years of hands-on project accounting experience within architectural, engineering, construction, or other project-based professional service environments.
• Direct experience with project-based financial concepts, including revenue tracking, fee breakdowns, consultant cost tracking, and billing cycles.
• Advanced Microsoft Excel skills (VLOOKUPs, Pivot Tables, dataset manipulation, and financial modeling).
• Prior experience using BST Global or equivalent project management ERP software is strong asset (training will be provided for candidate adaptability).
• Exceptional verbal and written communication skills with the ability to articulate financial details to non-finance project leads and external clients.
