Job summary

A leading construction firm in Ottawa is seeking a Project Accountant to manage the financial aspects of its projects. Responsibilities include overseeing invoice processing, financial reporting, and compliance with accounting standards. The ideal candidate should have at least 3 years of construction finance experience and strong analytical skills. This is a full-time, 15-month contract position with in-office work for 5 days per week.

Job description

Project Accountant - Contract

full-time, 15-month contract)

As a member of the Westview Projects team, the Project Accountant is directly responsible for managing the financial aspects of construction projects. This includes invoice processing and payments, ad hoc financial reporting, billing, and ensuring compliance with accounting standards and project budgets. The Project Accountant works closely with project managers, clients, subcontractors, and other stakeholders to ensure the financial success of each project.

Reports to : Director, Finance & Operations

Term : Aug / Sept 2025 start

Work Type : In-office 5 days / week

Essential Functions / Responsibilities :

  • Handle complex or escalated disputes with vendors or internal stakeholders.
  • Ensure the timely and accurate processing of invoices and payments.
  • Organize and file all project invoices in a high throughput environment.
  • Review and monitor project budgets and forecasts.
  • Track project costs, revenues, and cash flows.
  • Maintain detailed records of all financial transactions related to projects.
  • Ensure timely and accurate billings with supporting packages.
  • Ensure timely and accurate cash flow forecasts.
  • Regularly review Purchase Orders and contracts to monitor project progress.
  • Ensure compliance with all financial regulations and company policies.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned or required by the organization's needs.

Skills :

  • Minimum of 3 years' construction experience is required.
  • In-depth knowledge of accounting principles.
  • Experience with general ledger management and account reconciliations.
  • Experience with POs, COs, ICOs, RFA's, costing principles, and cash flows.
  • Proficiency in Premier Construction software.
  • Proficiency in MS Office programs, including advanced MS Excel skills.
  • Strong problem-solving and analytical skills for complex financial issues.
  • Effective communication with management, clients, vendors, and stakeholders.
  • Ability to maintain confidential and highly sensitive information.
  • Ability to work independently and prioritize accordingly to effectively manage multiple deadlines.
  • Excellent written & verbal communication skills.
