Qualifications

  • Post-secondary education in accounting, finance, business administration, or related discipline is preferred.
  • Three to five years of accounting, project accounting, job costing, accounts payable, or related administrative finance experience is preferred.
  • Experience in construction is considered an asset.
  • Working knowledge of job costing, purchase orders, invoice coding, cost tracking, and project billing processes.
  • Clear and professional communication skills

Responsibilities

  • Process project-related accounts payable, including vendor invoices and subcontractor payables.
  • Maintain accurate project accounting records and billing support.
  • Liaise with project sites, vendors, and internal teams on payables and billing matters.
  • Support cost reimbursable projects by reviewing recoverable costs and documenting billing details.
  • Prepare subcontract reconciliations and final release support as required.
  • Complete month-end activities and project-related revenue/billing reconciliations.

We also have extensive experience in fields such as civil, structural, process mechanical, building mechanical, electrical and instrumentation work. NAC is currently seeking a Project Accountant to join our Finance team, at our Head Office location in Morriston, ON.

Position Summary:

The Project Accountant supports the finance and operations teams by maintaining accurate project financial information, processing project-related transactions, assisting with billing and cost tracking, and ensuring project documentation is complete, timely, and compliant with internal procedures. Responsible for supporting cost reimbursable projects, including reviewing project costs, maintaining billing support, and ensuring recoverable costs are properly captured and documented. Assists with cost reimbursements captured through payroll by reviewing supporting details, project allocations, and related payroll cost information to support accurate job costing, billing, and reporting. Working closely with Project Managers, Project Controls, Accounts Payable, Payroll, and Finance to support accurate job costing, revenue recognition, reporting, and overall project financial administration.

Job Description:

  • Process project-related accounts payable, including vendor invoices, subcontractor payables, site rents, utilities, petty cash, and other project costs.
  • Maintain accurate project accounting records, billing support, accounts payable files, and other financial documentation.
  • Liaise with project sites, vendors, subcontractors, Project Managers, and internal departments to resolve payables, billing, coding, and project accounting matters.
  • Support cost reimbursable projects by reviewing recoverable costs, confirming coding, and maintaining supporting documentation for billing and audit purposes.
  • Assist with cost reimbursements captured through payroll by reviewing supporting details, allocations, and related project cost information.
  • Prepare subcontract reconciliations, and final release support as required.
  • Complete month-end activities, including project accounting reports, accruals, cost reallocations, accounts receivable reconciliations, subcontractor reconciliations, and revenue contract reconciliations.
  • Collect progress draws, payment certificates, and billing information from Project Managers; provide billing support, including preparing or producing billings for cost reimbursable jobs; post revenue billings, follow up on receivables, and record payments received.
  • Support project sites by building positive working relationships and assisting site administrators or project personnel with accounting procedures.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned to support project sites and the Finance department.

Requirements:

  • Post-secondary education in accounting, finance, business administration, or a related discipline is preferred.
  • three to five years years of accounting, project accounting, job costing, accounts payable, or related administrative finance experience is preferred.
  • Experience in construction is considered an asset.
  • Working knowledge of job costing, purchase orders, invoice coding, cost tracking, and project billing processes.
  • Strong proficiency with Microsoft Excel and comfort working with accounting systems; experience with Jonas is preferred.
  • High attention to detail and accuracy

  • Ability to identify discrepancies, investigate issues, and support timely resolution.
