Job summary

EllisDon Construction Services Inc. in Edmonton seeks a Project Accountant to join our on-site team, supporting contracts, subcontractor payments and financial reporting for active projects.

You will read contracts, reconcile expenditures, assemble client billings, manage cash flow data, and help prepare monthly owner/consultant reports with accuracy and integrity. Postsecondary business/finance education and 3–6 years of accounting experience are required.

  • 3–6 years of relevant accounting experience.
  • Strong organizational, interpersonal and analytical skills.

Responsibilities

  • Read and understand project contracts and subcontractor documentation to align with terms.
  • Collect, reconcile, seek approval and process all project-related payments and costs.
  • Assemble client billing packages to ensure timely invoicing and payments.
  • Maintain accurate cash flow data and forecast versus financial models.
  • Assist the Project Manager in monthly owner/consultant reporting.

You as Project Accountant will:
  • Read and understand project related contracts and subcontractor documentation to ensure project set up procedures are aligned with contract terms and conditions
  • Collect, reconcile, seek approval and process all project related subcontractor payments, general expenditures, internal hourly payroll costing allocations and all other financial transactions in a timely and accurate manner in order to meet all contract payment terms
  • Assemble client billing packages in accordance with approval procedures and processes to ensure client is in receipt of billings on a timely basis and payments are received as per contract terms and conditions
  • Maintain accurate and timely cash flow data, both current and forecasted as compared to projected cash flow assumed in financial model (as applicable to the project)
  • Assist the Project Manager in preparing monthly reports for owner/consultant and internal reporting

  • post-secondary education in Business Administration/Finance along with 3-6 years of relevant accounting experience
  • the ability to correctly identify financial situations and produce logical solutions to support a project team/business area
  • demonstrate strong organizational, interpersonal, communication, problem solving, and analytical skills as well as a keen willingness to work independently and on-site at project locations
  • demonstrate the ability to work under pressure and manage tight deadlines
  • proficient with the Microsoft Office suite of applications including Excel and PowerBI
