Location

This is a remote position. You can work from home and be located anywhere in Canada. If you are located in Ottawa, Canada you will work a hybrid schedule of 3 days per week in office.

About the role

The Project Accountant is responsible for supporting the professional services order to revenue accounting cycle, by providing services contract administration and data maintenance for Professional Services projects. Reporting initially to the Director, Financial Operations, the Project Accountant will partner with our Professional Services team to ensure the successful financial management of projects, including project setup, maintenance, invoicing, and project closure.

This is an exciting opportunity to be a cross-functional partner, and to help scale Professional Services revenue and project accounting in a high-growth, multi-entity, and global business.

What you will do
  • Financial management of time and material and fixed price Professional Services projects, which includes but is not limited to contract and change request management, project setup, master data maintenance, invoicing, and project closure.
  • Complete monthly project financial procedures including revenue recognition and support timely and accurate invoice creation
  • Ensure consistent application of approvals and control procedures.
  • Monitor project budgets, change orders, project health and estimates in the PSA tool, Kantata.
  • Build strong relationships with our internal Professional Services business partners, including Delivery and Project Managers.
  • Identify risks to project status or completion and escalate to leadership as appropriate
  • Support resolution of contract issues including providing support to the billing team as required.
  • Support service sales team in creation of statements of work and change requests.
  • Effectively work with colleagues across Finance and other key internal and external stakeholders.
  • Assist with special project assignments, ad-hoc analysis as required.
What we are looking for
  • Post-secondary degree in Finance, Accounting, or related field.
  • 3+ years of experience in Project or Professional Services Accounting
  • Experience in a multi-entity global environment, high-tech industry experience is an asset.
  • Proven experience building strong, cross-functional relationships and partnering with stakeholders from across the business to meet objectives.
  • Excellent communication skills, including being able to clearly communicate financial information to colleagues and stakeholders, and work collaboratively with integrity.
  • Able to manage multiple and dynamic priorities and deadlines and thrive in a fast-paced environment.
  • Experience with ERP and project accounting systems, NetSuite, Kantata and Salesforce an asset.
  • Proficient in MS Office 365 including Excel, Word, PowerPoint
