An established industry player is seeking a Programs and Events Assistant for a dynamic summer role. This position involves assisting in the planning and execution of various events and programs aimed at enhancing student engagement. The University of the Fraser Valley Student Union Society (SUS) is a BC Not-For-Profit Society representing and serving UFV students. The Society manages the Student Union Building and facilitates services such as the UFV U-PASS, food services, and the student health and dental plan. SUS also provides support to an active community by organizing events and provides wellness and developmental programming. As the official representative body of UFV students, our mission is to be an inclusive community that provides high-quality, accessible programs and services. We are the unified voice advocating on behalf of student interests in the UFV community, ensuring each student has opportunities to thrive.
Position: Programs and Events Assistant
Work Schedule: Full-Time, Monday to Friday (37.5 hours per week)
Duration: July 2, 2025 to August 29, 2025
Salary: $19.23 per hour
Reporting to: Programs and Events Coordinator
SUS is looking for a new Programs and Events Assistant. This dynamic role is responsible for assisting in the planning and execution of SUS events and programs. The assistant will actively collaborate across departments and liaise with external organizations such as vendors and suppliers.
Day to day tasks include: - Creating event detail forms, floor plans, budgets and apply for safety and security approval. - Setting up and taking down events - supporting execution of events to ensure success - Following up with staff after events to collect data and internal feedback - Reaching out to local businesses and build relationships to improve the Student Perks Program - Supporting in the planning and execution of the fifth annual Kickback event.
Qualifications and Responsibilities: - Event Planning: Basic event planning experience is considered an asset - JEDI Experience: Recognizing the importance of Justice, Equity, Diversity and Inclusion - Customer Service Skills: Solve problems, demonstrate patience - Communication Skills: Ability to communicate clearly and concisely over the phone, in person and via email. - Computer Literacy: Basic level of computer programs including Microsoft, Slack, Basecamp and Rubric is considered an asset. - Organization and Time Management: Successfully execute projects within a specified timeframe - Adaptability and Flexibility: Be able to take on projects with minimal notice, adjust priorities, rearrange schedules and prepare backup plans for events and programs. - Teamwork Skills: Must be able to collaborate and support staff operations at SUS. - Work Ethic: Professional Work Ethic, exercising good judgement, initiative, confidentiality and a high degree of professionalism.
