Job Description:

Service Responsibilities:

In collaboration with Program Caseworkers, provide support in life skills, living skills, and individual follow-up to clients, including:

  • Basic household management (cleaning, organizing)
  • Hygiene and self-care
  • Time management—help clients organize and develop routines, facilitate completion of daily responsibilities
  • Ensure clients meet their goals
  • Monitor client progress and recommend adjustments; prepare evaluations and progress reports
  • Ensure assessments and reports are consistent and timely
  • Communicate with Program Caseworkers and supervisors regarding client progress and issues
  • Participate in continuous quality improvement activities as assigned
  • Complete all required paperwork accurately and on time
  • Utilize computer management systems to record documentation, maintain confidentiality, and generate reports
  • Develop and deliver the weekday Breakfast Program for Habitat Program Clients
  • Network and refer clients to The Salvation Army or community social services to coordinate resources
  • Perform other related duties as assigned

Qualifications:

  • Completion of a Community College Diploma in Social Services or equivalent
  • At least one year of relevant experience in social service programs and communication skills
  • Ability to teach independent living skills
  • Strong observational, verbal, and written communication skills
  • Ability to work effectively with diverse populations
  • Experience working with vulnerable populations and understanding of their needs
  • Knowledge of addictions and mental health resources
  • Patience, sensitivity, and respect for cultural diversity
  • Ability to handle disruptive behaviors professionally
  • Proficiency in computer skills (MS Office, Internet, databases)
  • Physical ability to lift/move 25 lbs
  • First Aid/CPR and Non-Violent Crisis Intervention certification or willingness to obtain
  • Valid Ontario G driver's license, own vehicle, and insurance; satisfactory driving record
  • Background check with vulnerable sector screening and abuse registry clearance

Note: Alternative combinations of education and experience may be considered.

Conditions of Employment:

  • Work schedule may include evenings and weekends as needed
  • Full-time, 30 hours/week
  • Travel may be required
  • Work primarily at 519 Pearl Street, with some work at 545 Cumberland Street

Compensation:

Salary range: $21.83 to $27.29 per hour, with a maximum of $32.75. Salary placement depends on experience, skills, and qualifications. The Salvation Army provides reasonable accommodations upon request.
