Fulltime, 35 hours per week, occasional evenings and weekends may be required

Start date: August 26, 2025

Salary: $37,310 annually + benefits

Reports to: Director of Programs

About the Chebucto Family Centre:

Chebucto Family Centre is a Family Resource Centre and community hub located in Spryfield. We offer a wide range of free programs and services to support families, including advocacy and support, prenatal and parenting classes, health and wellness initiatives, basic needs, youth programming, the Volunteer Doula Program, Home Visiting programs, and operation as a licensed Home Child Care Agency. Our mission is to nurture and enhance the quality of life of families through the delivery of community based programs and services.

Position Overview:

The Program Support Worker supports the Centre’s programs and services through menu planning, grocery shopping, food preparation, cleaning, basic needs coordination and day-to-day operational tasks. They are an active member of the Program Planning Team and provide support to the Playroom Facilitator with childcare and assist with centre programming as needed.

This role is suited for someone with a warm, community-minded presence, who thrives in a team environment, and is ready to step in and support where needed. The Program Support Worker plays a vital role in ensuring that the Centre runs smoothly and remains a welcoming, safe space for families.

Key Responsibilities

  • Menu planning, grocery shopping, snack preparation for programs
  • General housekeeping duties
  • Active member of the Program Planning Team
  • Support the Playroom Facilitator with childcare as needed
  • Assist with program setup and teardown
  • Support with the delivery of the Basic Needs Program
  • Provide coverage for reception as needed
  • Work collaboratively with Chebucto Family Centre staff to support overall organizational goals

Program Support Worker

Qualifications:

  • Valid driver’s license and reliable vehicle (travel within HRM required)
  • Food Handler’s Certificate, or willingness to obtain
  • First Aid Certificate
  • Experience working with children, families and community members from a diverse background
  • Strong communication skills and ability to work as part of a collaborative team
  • Experience or comfort working in a community, childcare, or kitchen setting
  • Demonstrated ability to work both independently and collaboratively
  • Familiarity with family resource centre environments is an asset
  • Successful applicant will be required to provide a criminal record check (including Vulnerable

Sector Search) and Child Abuse Register Search as a condition of employment
