Employment Opportunity: Program Support – Summer Student

Location: Halifax, NS

Salary Range: $19.00/ per hour

Employment Term: 12 weeks, June 2025- August 2025 (Monday-Friday, 35 hours per week)

Reports To: Program Managers

General Description:

Mi’kmaw Native Friendship Centre is centrally located in the urban Indigenous community of Halifax and is looking for One (1) Program Support – Summer Student. The Program Support worker will work in tandem with all the MNFC staff to assist with all programs and services. This position will be focused on providing an Indigenous student the opportunity to gain work experience while continuing their education. This is a designated position for a student with Indigenous ancestry. Applicants must also be able to provide proof of post-secondary enrolment.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Support for all program activities for the Mi’kmaw Native Friendship Centre
  2. Organizing files
  3. Prepare student information packages
  4. Research for resources, tools and supports
  5. Assist with Urban Indigenous Day Camp
  6. Brochure development
  7. Update and maintain website information
  8. Update and maintain social media page
  9. Plan and implement fundraising activities and events
  10. Client information sessions
  11. Assist with Friendship Centre events
  12. Set up and tear down
  13. Vacation relief
  14. Answering phones
  15. Assist with cleaning/organizing
  16. May perform other related duties as required

Qualifications & Experience:

  1. Must have attended post-secondary from September 2024 to April 2025; and be returning to full-time studies in the Fall of 2025
  2. Excellent communicator, both spoken and written
  3. Strong organizational and time-management skills
  4. Thrives working both independently (a self-starter) and collaboratively
  5. Personal attributes: respectful, able to take direction
  6. Dependable and consistently works to uphold MNFC ethics and standards
  7. This position is designated for students of indigenous ancestry, please self-identify
