Program Services Team Lead

The Opportunity

The Program Service Team Leader will lead a team of Program Services Workers, directing their daily work to ensure that the program set-ups, deliveries, coffee/snack services, moves, transportation of goods and strikes are completed in a timely and efficient manner and according to the standards set by the Hospitality Management. The Team Leader is responsible for acting as a liaison between Program Services and other parties of Banff Centre. This position assists the Manager, Program Services in training, motivating, and the development of Program Service employees.

Roles and Responsibilities

Reporting to the Manager, Program Services, below are some key accountabilities:

  • Assist the Manager by organizing and directing the daily work of Program Services Workers within their team. The Team Leader will be responsible for looking days ahead to plan the equipment moves for set up. The incumbent will then have the responsibility of ensuring that all duties are completed in a timely and efficient manner and to the standards outlined by the Hospitality Management.
  • Ensure that all program and coffee/snack services are completed according to the Banquet Event Orders. The Team Leader will be in contact with the internal and external organizers of the functions to ensure that service is provided according to expectations outlined in the BEO's. The Team Leader will serve as the link for communication of any last minute changes to the Program Services Workers.
  • Responsible for the transportation of goods and equipment to and from the receiving area of the kitchen. The team leader will be responsible for ensuring all the food goods that are required for internal and external orders have been prepared, delivered and received in the coffee area of program services.
  • Assist departments of Banff Centre in activities such as office moves, box moves, and equipment moves including pianos and other musical instruments in a friendly and efficient manner and with a strong emphasis on equipment care, safety, and breakage avoidance.
  • The Team Leader will be required to handle special requests or concerns from internal and external clients in a friendly, efficient, and courteous manner, referring these requests or concerns immediately to the Manager if unsure or unable to offer assistance.
  • The incumbent will assist the Supervisor in the training of all new employees by ensuring that all training is done efficiently & effectively following policies, standards, and expectations outlined by Banff Centre Hospitality Management.
  • The incumbent will be required to have a sound knowledge of the Program Service Worker job description and be able to perform the duties to the standards required.
  • The Team Leader will assist the Program Services Manager in maintaining the cleanliness and upkeep of all Program areas and equipment at all times.
  • The Team Leader will assist with the daily inventory of all supply storage areas. The Team Leader will initiate supply requisitions to maintain par levels and will communicate low levels of equipment to the Supervisor or Manager for ordering purposes.
  • Promote and maintain a high level of employee relations at all times in conjunction with Banff Centre Policy. The incumbent will know and understand the collective bargaining agreement as it relates to employee issues and will ensure compliance with the regulations within at all times.
  • The incumbent will be required to drive a service vehicle and must do so in accordance with the Banff Centre Driving Policy at all times.

Qualifications and Educational Requirements

  • The ability to move heavy equipment for a full shift and the ability to lift 80 pounds on a regular basis.
  • Must be over the age of 18 as they will be responsible for handling liquor.
  • Organizational skills and adaptability to budget their time according to an ever-changing schedule.
  • An eye for detail and the ability to maintain the highest standards of set-ups and service.
  • The ability to take direction and feedback on their performance.
  • Strong customer service skills and the ability to work with the public.
  • A valid class 5 Alberta or equivalent driver’s license.
  • Be able to drive a 12 FT, Cube Truck.
  • A clear criminal record check as they have access to guest rooms and meeting areas on campus.
  • Strong communications skills.
  • A positive attitude and strong work ethic.
  • Basic computer skills and the ability to use programs such as Microsoft Word and property management software.
  • A good working knowledge of Banff Centre is an asset.

Special Requirements

  • Due to the nature of the job, this position requires the candidate to be available to work a flexible, irregular schedule and weekends.

Employment Terms and Benefits

  • In accordance with CUPE 4318, this is a unionized, hourly support staff position, subject to 500 hour probation period.
  • This position pays $23.19 per hour working up to 37.5 hours per week on a rotating schedule.
