The Program Medical Director (“PMD”) Gynecologic Oncology is responsible for the overall provincial leadership of the Gynecologic Oncology Program. The position involves establishing standards, goals, strategies, policies, and processes for the clinical program, and supporting their implementation in collaboration with Department Heads, Executive Medical Directors (EMDs), Medical Directors (MDs), and other leaders. The PMD ensures patient-centered care that is equitable, timely, and high quality, maintaining consistency across regions and adapting to regional environments.
The role encompasses programmatic responsibility for BC Cancer Gynecologic Oncology and provides leadership for current and future programs. The PMD also promotes research and education participation among clinical and scientific staff.
Provides provincial leadership for the Gynecologic Oncology program, staying current with technological and treatment advancements. Develops long-term strategic plans and represents the program on relevant committees. Collaborates with regional health authorities to address surgical care needs and participates in strategic planning activities.
Leads provincial quality initiatives, establishes performance evaluation frameworks, and collaborates with other leaders to ensure high standards. Develops and recommends quality metrics, advises surgical leaders, and addresses quality issues to meet accreditation standards.
Develops and monitors standards of practice and operational policies in collaboration with Department Heads and leadership teams, ensuring compliance with accreditation and current standards.
Sets clinical practice and behavior standards, investigates concerns, and supports professional development. Fosters relationships with external agencies, supports research and education, and ensures quality training environments for trainees.
Contributes to long-term workforce planning, assists in recruitment, and leads leadership development within the program.
Identifies community clinical leaders, manages program operations including financial oversight, and addresses oncology issues in the community.
Medical degree with specialist fellowship in Gynecologic Oncology, eligibility for College of Physicians and Surgeons of BC licensing, and appointment at BC Cancer. Leadership skills and experience in Gynecologic Oncology preferred, especially within UBC.
