Job Title: Program Manager, Asian Strategies (Leave Replacement)

Department: Asian Strategies Unit | Dean's Office | Faculty of Forestry

Compensation Range: $6,251.00 - $8,986.00 CAD Monthly

The Compensation Range is the span between the minimum and maximum base salary for a position. The midpoint of the range is approximately halfway between the minimum and the maximum and represents an employee that possesses full job knowledge, qualifications and experience for the position. In the normal course, employees will be hired, transferred or promoted between the minimum and midpoint of the salary range for a job.

Job Summary

The Program Manager, Asian Strategies manages a portfolio of university transfer and exchange programs (2+2/3+2/Go Global) of the Faculty of Forestry. The incumbent develops and implements programs, manages and develops systems for international logistics and financial reconciliation/flow of funds for international programs, and performs marketing functions and prepares proposals for new international programs.

Responsibilities:

  • Manages a portfolio of university transfer programs (2+2/3+2/Go Global) of the Faculty of Forestry.
  • Develops and prepares new international project proposals.
  • Develops orientation programs within Forestry for new transfer, visiting, and exchange students from partner universities.
  • Develops and maintains effective networks for the 2+2/3+2 students and alumni.
  • Designs and delivers group training programs for capacity building.
  • Manages and develops systems for international logistics and financial reconciliation/flow of funds for international programs.
  • Responsible for liaison with faculty members, Program Directors, Student Services staff, Admission Office staff.
  • Responds to inquiries for possible programs and works with counterparts on developing new programs, including budgets.
  • Identifies strategies for marketing of our programs and services in the Asia-Pacific region.
  • Coordinates with fundraising initiatives and priority projects.
  • Represents the Faculty of Forestry locally and overseas for programs or initiatives.

Requirements:

  • Undergraduate degree in a relevant discipline.
  • Minimum of four years of related experience, or the equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Oral and written fluency in Chinese (Mandarin).
  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with a variety of different stakeholders.
  • Highly motivated, creative person.
  • Proven ability to both lead and support teams of student staff and volunteers.
  • Excellent communication, both verbal and written, excellent interpersonal and problem-solving skills.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Forestry, or related area, Master's degree is preferred.
  • Four years of related experience working in a post-secondary environment in event management, program development or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience required.
  • Experience in designing and delivering training and developmental or skill-building workshops.
  • Experience in a Windows-based environment, and willingness to learn to use new systems.
  • Familiarity with the Chinese educational System.
  • Knowledge of current issues in Forestry, Conservation and Wood Products in B.C., Canada and internationally.

Errors in judgment may cause serious issues and identifiable deterioration to alumni, faculty, and student relations; reduce services; cause embarrassment to the University; increase event and program costs; and impact negatively the Faculty and University's reputation and accountability with partner universities, students and their families.

Supervision Received:

Works under the direction of the Assistant Dean, Asian Strategy while closely liaising with the Director of Student Services and the Program Directors.

Supervision Given:

Supervises or advises contractors, consultants, student employees and volunteers in the coordination and delivery of programs.
