CAWES Program Manager

Job description

The Central Alberta Women's Emergency Shelter is a 24/7 shelter for women and children fleeing domestic violence. We offer short-term emergency accommodations, case management, safety planning, outreach services, domestic violence court support, child support services, as well as a crisis phone and text line, and referrals to community partners. CAWES is in the process of a massive expansion, and by the end of 2025 will have the capacity to become a 50-bed emergency shelter with 17-units of second stage shelter, and 23 units of third stage transitional housing. This is an exciting time for the organization, and we are looking for a dynamic leader to join our team as we evolve as an organization.

Duties and Responsibilities

The Program Manager is part of the senior leadership team and is responsible for overseeing programs and managing front-line staff within CAWES. The role involves leadership, organizational planning, and community connections to support excellent client service delivery.

To do so, this position will:

·Coordinate and supervise the ongoing provision of quality programming and services, and ensure that established standards for program/shelter service delivery are met through adequate staffing and availability of appropriate supplies.

·Provide ongoing support, mentorship, and supervision to program staff through various performance management processes within a unionized environment to ensure a high standard of service and safety in accordance with shelter policies and procedures.

·Maintain communication systems that promote collaborative working relationships.

·Evaluate and implement training development plans, oversee staff and program schedules, approve staff hours worked for bi-weekly payroll, and oversee vacation scheduling.

·Supervise volunteers and students, ensuring they are provided with an orientation, direction, and guidance to ensure positive and enriching experiences for them and the clients at CAWES, and to support them in achieving their learning objectives.

·Write and submit reports to government and funders on a monthly, quarterly, and annual basis.

·Respond to crises and provide on-call support as required.

·Maintain strong relationships with community partners and represent CAWES at inter-agency meetings.

·Other duties as assigned

Qualifications

·Demonstrated management experience in a senior level position for five+ years

·Demonstrated human resource management and experience with OH&S (Occupational Health & Safety)

·Mandatory experience in working in acute crisis, trauma-informed care, harm reduction, feminist, anti-oppressive, violence against women setting.

·Mandatory experience working in a fast-paced environment that requires quick, appropriate, and timely responses. Ability to engage emergency responses and services (Naloxone, CPR, etc.).

·Demonstrated and accredited risk assessment training (ex. Jacquelyn Campbell etc.)

·Formal knowledge of domestic violence; intimate partner violence; violence against women, LGBTQ2S+, diverse, newcomer, and Indigenous communities.

·Earned degree or diploma in Social Work, Social Sciences, Health, or related fields from a recognized post-secondary institution.

·Experience with change management and organizational evolution

·Excellent interpersonal skills, with the ability to build positive and collaborative working relationships with individuals and teams.

·Excellent conflict management and dispute resolution skills.

·Solid decision-making skills with the ability to motivate and direct others.

·Sound judgment and excellent problem-solving/crisis management skills.

·Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

·Proficient in Microsoft Office and database experience

·A valid Alberta Driver’s License

·Standard First Aid/CPR, ASIST Certification, and Non-Violent Crisis Intervention Training is considered an asset

Working Conditions

This is a full-time exempt position (40 hours per week) working from the shelter, with on-call responsibilities. The position is eligible for full benefits.

Physical Requirements

This position requires spending time working at a computer, going up and down stairs, and lifting no more than 40 lbs.
