Job summary

Clarington is seeking enthusiastic staff to lead and supervise in a safe, enjoyable environment for the Her Game, Our Goal soccer program. You will coach girl-identified youth and support the delivery of life-skill activities with training provided in partnership with MLSE Foundation.

Ideal candidates have 1-2 years coaching experience, strong leadership and communication skills, and the ability to teach basic soccer.

Qualifications

• 1-2 years of experience coaching children/youth in a recreation setting.
• Demonstrated leadership and competence in soccer instruction.
• Ability to teach basic soccer rules, skills, and small-sided games.
• Mature, responsible, and capable of inspiring participants.
• Strong verbal and written communication and customer service.

Responsibilities

The Municipality of Clarington, Public Services Department, Community Services Division is looking for enthusiastic and knowledgeable staff to provide leadership and supervision in a safe and enjoyable environment for Clarington Programs.

Clarington is launching a new Sport & Recreation program, Her Game, Our Goal, consisting of strategies that increase participation in sport among females and those who self-identify as women, in partnership with Maple Leaf Sports and Entertainment (MLSE) Foundation, Community Access Grant. With support from the MLSE Foundation, this new, free soccer program helps remove barriers so that girl-identified youth, aged 7-13 years can experience everything sport has to offer, building life skills along the way.

Reporting to the Recreation Supervisor, Community Programs – Recreation and Inclusion, the successful candidates will assist in coaching girl-identified youth of various ages and abilities in the sport of soccer. Training and certifications will be provided to all successful candidates. Applicants must also have experience playing soccer.

Applicants must be available during program hours which include Tuesdays from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. from October 2026 to September 2027. Additionally, applicants must be available Sunday, September 27 th for training and additional Sunday events and activities throughout the year (dates to be confirmed).

Key Responsibilities

• Assisting the Recreation Coordinator in program delivery and implementation of girl-identified youth (ages 6-12 years) in soccer, including the creation and development of lesson plans.
• Adapting programming where required to support a safe and inclusive learning environment for all skill levels of participants.
• Planning and delivering age-appropriate soccer activities and skill development sessions that facilitate life skills programming and leadership activities.
• Assisting with program setup, equipment management, and program evaluation to ensure participant safety.
• Acting as a positive role model and mentor for participants and volunteers that helps develop confidence, teamwork, and positive social connections.
• Responding to general inquiries and provide excellent customer service.
• Communicating and collaborating effectively with participants, volunteers, staff, and community partners.
• Completing program reports as required.
• Other duties as assigned.

What you bring

• Candidates will have 1-2 years of experience coaching children, youth, and/or adult in a recreation setting.
• Must have demonstrated leadership qualities and be a competent in the sport of soccer.
• Experience playing soccer and required to have the ability to instruct children in the basics of soccer. This includes soccer rules, skills, player confidence, small-sided games, and full game play. This can be at a recreational or competitive level.
• Exhibit maturity, responsibility, and strong leadership skills.
• Excellent verbal communication skills and strong written communication skills.
• Demonstrated experience providing excellent customer service.
• Certificate in Standard First Aid and CPR “C” would be an asset at time of interview.
• Certificate in High 5 Principles of Healthy Child Development (PHCD) would be an asset at time of interview.
• Must be able to legally work in Canada.

What we offer

• Rate of Pay: $21.29 per hour (2026 rate).
• Hours of work: The successful candidate will be required to complete scheduled training prior to the start of the program and must be able to work evenings and weekends, up to a maximum of 24 hours per week.

Additional Information

The successful candidates will be required to complete scheduled training prior to recreation programs beginning.

A satisfactory criminal record check with a vulnerable sector screening will be required for the successful candidate.

• Making Headway in Soccer – Concussion Awareness Training
• Potential coaching and leadership development opportunities
• These certifications will support coaches in developing their coaching knowledge, leadership skills, and future employment opportunities in sport and recreation.
• These certifications and trainings are covered through the MLSE grant program.
