Provincial Preschool Autism Services

The Provincial Preschool Autism Service (PPAS) is a partnership providing person- and family-centred services to preschoolers across Nova Scotia with suspected or diagnosed autism. Services include clinical intake, care coordination, family and professional education, parent coaching, autism diagnostic assessment, interprofessional interventions, intensive supports, and transition to school assistance.

The Opportunity

Reporting to the Manager, the Program Implementer provides intervention within autism care pathways, foundational education, and parent coaching for children and families, including intensive intervention for children with significant needs. Responsibilities include:

  1. Providing direct services to preschool children with autism and their families based on intervention plans.
  2. Delivering evidence-based interventions, primarily based on Applied Behaviour Analysis, in various settings such as clinics, homes, and classrooms.
  3. Working under the supervision of Clinical Interventionists and Speech Language Pathologists.
Hours of Work

Monday – Friday, 37.5 hours/week, with some flexibility required, including evenings and weekends.

Your Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology or Child and Youth Studies, or Education with relevant experience.
  • Recent experience (within 5 years) working with young children (0-7 years) with developmental disabilities, especially autism.
  • Post-secondary certificate/diploma in Behavioral Interventions preferred.
  • Current BLS certification (within last 12 months) and First Aid certification.
  • Understanding of family-centered care, excellent communication, teamwork, and organizational skills.
  • Ability to work independently, accept feedback, and demonstrate cultural competency and commitment to equity and inclusion.
  • Proficiency in office technology; additional language skills are assets.
  • Certification in Non-Violent Crisis Intervention is an asset.
