Provincial Preschool Autism Services

This service is a partnership between IWK Health, Nova Scotia Health, Hearing and Speech Nova Scotia, and Autism Nova Scotia, providing person- and family-centered services to preschoolers across Nova Scotia suspected of or diagnosed with autism. The goal is to offer an efficient, sustainable, and integrated continuum of health services tailored to individual needs.

Services include:

  • Clinical intake and care coordination
  • Family and professional education
  • QuickStart NS parent coaching toddler program
  • Autism diagnostic assessment
  • Interprofessional autism interventions
  • Intensive intervention for children with significant social communication and behavior needs
  • Transition to school supports

The Opportunity

Reporting to the Manager, Provincial Preschool Autism Services, the Program Implementer provides intervention based on evidence-based practices, offers foundational education and parent coaching, and delivers intensive intervention for children with the greatest needs. Responsibilities include:
  • Direct service provision to preschool children with autism and their families according to intervention plans
  • Standardized delivery of PPAS adopted interventions based on Applied Behaviour Analysis
  • Providing services in various settings, including clinics, homes, childcare centers, and classrooms
  • Supervision by Clinical Interventionists and Speech Language Pathologists from relevant disciplines

Hours of Work

Monday – Friday, 37.5 hours/week, with some evening and weekend flexibility required.

Your Qualifications

- Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology or Child and Youth Studies, or Education with relevant experience
- Recent experience working with children aged 0-7 with developmental disabilities, especially autism
- Post-secondary Behavioral Interventions Certificate or Diploma preferred
- Current BLS and First Aid certifications
- Commitment to family-centered care, collaboration, and diversity principles
- Proficiency with office technology; additional language skills are assets
- Certification in Non-Violent Crisis Intervention is an asset
