Saskatchewan Polytechnic is seeking a Program Head for its School of Mining, Manufacturing and Engineering Technologies. This leadership role involves fostering educational excellence, managing resources, and coordinating efforts between faculty, students, and industry stakeholders. The ideal candidate will possess a strong background in Instrumentation Engineering Technology with demonstrable experience in a leadership capacity.
Job Duties / Qualifications, Skills and Abilities (QSA)
The program head provides academic leadership and serves as the first point of contact for students, faculty, and staff in their assigned program. They work closely with the academic chair, faculty, staff, and administration to support student success through quality education and training delivery.
The program head reports to the academic chair of the School of Mining, Manufacturing and Engineering Technologies (MMET). Responsibilities may include travel for program and administrative duties, including participation in inter-site committees. MMET offers diploma and certificate programs across various disciplines, utilizing diverse delivery methods.
The primary role is to facilitate communication between program faculty, staff, students, and the academic chair, and to coordinate with external stakeholders such as industry, accrediting agencies, and other educational institutions. The program head also assists in managing the program’s financial resources and recommends efficiencies.
Key responsibilities include initiating curriculum development and renewal, liaising with student services, providing academic advising, and managing student recruitment and retention. The role involves staff recruitment, orientation, coaching, and mentoring, with a focus on modeling teaching excellence based on Saskatchewan Polytechnic Instructor Competencies. Faculty assessment in collaboration with the Academic Chair is also part of the role.
