Job Description:

Supervision: Program Director/Coordinator/Shift Supervisor/Executive Director/Corps Officer or designate.

Service Responsibilities:

The incumbent is responsible for duties typical of this role, including:

  1. Monitoring client/resident activities and providing support, including safe storage and recording of medications.
  2. Accurately recording daily activities and maintaining logbooks and reports.
  3. Providing life skills training such as hygiene, health, communication, and anger management.
  4. Acting as a client advocate and positive role model.
  5. Liaising with referral sources and external agencies (e.g., welfare, police, parole).
  6. Coordinating client care related to security, including bed checks and searches.
  7. Managing admissions, orientations, rule evaluations, and discharges, enforcing policies and discipline as needed.
  8. Handling finances related to room rentals and meal tickets.
  9. Answering program department calls and recording messages.
  10. Performing other duties as assigned.

Note: Not all incumbents perform all duties but a similar range of responsibilities.

This position description will be reviewed and amended as necessary to meet contractual and organizational requirements.

Minimum Education:

Up to two years of Community College; alternative education and experience may be considered.

Special Licenses and Certifications:

  • Hepatitis B immunization
  • TB vaccination
  • WHMIS training
  • Current First Aid/CPR certification
  • Criminal Police Investigation Check (CPIC)
  • Non-violent crisis intervention training

Prior Experience:

One to three years in a social service setting, including frontline work with women/children, life skills, or related fields.

Physical Effort and Concentration:

Requires keyboarding, sitting for long periods, occasional packing, and continuous environment monitoring, with moderate attention to detail.

Financial Responsibility:

Involves minor financial transactions, disbursing or collecting small amounts of cash, with little influence on the overall budget.

Human Resources Responsibility:

Provides leadership and oversight, offering guidance and feedback, with input on hiring and firing decisions.

Work Environment:

Primarily office and shelter facilities, with potential dealing with angry or verbally abusive individuals, and a schedule that may affect personal lifestyle. Little to no travel expected.

Exposure to Hazards and Precautions:

Potential exposure to physical attacks, infectious diseases, chemicals, bodily fluids, and dangerous situations. Precautionary measures include universal precautions, vaccinations, WHMIS, and crisis intervention training.

Salary and Position Grade: Based on Collective Agreement. Target range: $19.53 to $20.15; maximum $20.76. Salary placement depends on experience, skills, and qualifications.
