Salary: External Rate: $54,097.76
Internal Rate: $55,201.79

Program Overview – Rites of Passage (ROP) Program

The Rites of Passage (ROP) Program Coordinator assists the ROP Homeward Manager in developing and implementing programs and activities for women and children. The program ensures that activities align with an African-centered value system and meet participants' needs.

This position reports to the Rites of Passage Manager (Homeward Bound) and works collaboratively within the ROP team to coordinate programs for parents and children of African descent in the Homeward Bound program.

What You Will Do
  • Provide leadership in researching and implementing culturally appropriate group activities for women, children, and youth of African descent.
  • Plan bimonthly culturally appropriate group activities and events.
  • Promote these activities to the Homeward Bound participants.
  • Support and lead workshops and group meetings for women and children.
  • Coordinate logistics such as food, meeting frequency, and location.
  • Maintain contact with parents to support children during sessions and events.
  • Develop tools to measure outcomes and evaluate program effectiveness.
  • Collaborate with staff for ongoing coordination within the organization.
  • Manage service data and maintain records following standards, using databases like CRM 2.0.
  • Monitor and report on activity outcomes regularly.
  • Participate in supervisory, staff, and unit meetings.
  • Perform other duties as assigned, ensuring service standards are upheld for African-Canadian youth and communities.
What You Bring to the Team
  • Undergraduate Degree in Social Work, College Diploma, or related field.
  • At least 3 years’ experience working with children and youth in culturally responsive programming, with assets including experience with Rites of Passage models or African-centered maturation models.

  • Knowledge of personal development processes for people of African descent.
  • Minimum 3 years of case management and referral experience.
  • Strong outreach, marketing, organizational, and planning skills.
  • Effective communication and presentation skills.
  • Knowledge of issues impacting African-Canadian women and children.
