Campus & Community Recreation is the host of multiple wellness activities and events that run throughout the University of Alberta campus. This includes recreational events and programs that are available at South Campus as well as North Campus. Campus & Community Recreation offers programs and facilities aimed at meeting the needs and interests of the broad range of communities that we serve. Position Summary

The Coordinator positions within Campus & Community Recreation (CCR) assist in coordinating the day-to-day operations of Campus & Community Fitness, Leisure & Wellness programs and events. The Coordinator assists with the development, administration and evaluation of various programs and events for the University Community and the general public on the north and south campuses. The PC assists with error correction, coaching and scheduling of student, casual and contract staff, program delivery, facility coordination and risk management of designated program areas of Campus & Community Recreation.

The Coordinator may be assigned duties in the area of Fitness Leisure and Wellness, including group fitness, dance, martial arts, recreational skating and crafts throughout the year based on operational needs. The Coordinator is responsible for the day-to-day operations and delivery of assigned fitness, wellness, and leisure programs and activities. This position will support virtual and digital program development, as well as planning and promotion for various programs and events. This position may serve as the liaison for group fitness certifications for Campus & Community Recreation. The Group Fitness certification liaison will provide a voice for CCR to advocate for hosting and implementing on-campus certification opportunities for students and the community in the areas of group fitness. The PC will coordinate the collaboration and delivery of courses in this area as directed by the Program Supervisor.

The Coordinator will have responsibilities in the day-to-day operation & delivery of fitness facilities, programs, personal training, as well as other special event activities. Within a framework of sport and facility management, tasks associated include facility operations, event management, competitive & recreational structure, student leadership development, and engaging users in safely utilizing the fitness centers. CCR facilities, events & programs engage the University of Alberta Community in various outreach and engagement activities that may include drop-in use, programs, workshops, events, group rentals and outdoor adventure programs. The Coordinator will also participate in the implementation of other campus events (such as Reccrawl, orientation activities, open house events, competitions and fundraising activities) and promotions as required.

This position will be scheduled to work variable hours, including evenings and weekends.

Duties

• Responsible for day-to-day operations and oversight of assigned Fitness, Instructional Recreation (Dance, Martial Arts and Sport Skills) and Leisure programs and events as assigned by the Program Supervisor; responsibilities include: planning, program delivery, scheduling, processing facility allocation requests, addressing equipment needs, human resource oversight, risk management monitoring, results reporting, and statistical reporting;
• Plan and deliver high-quality student-focused programs and activities in assigned program focus areas;
• Supervise group fitness, instructional and leisure programs as required;
• Provide leadership and onsite supervision, program instruction and support for in-person and virtual Fitness, Leisure and Wellness programs and activities;
• Develop and participate in promotional activities across campus designed to enhance student and community awareness in the area of recreation, physical activity and health;
• Personally lead fitness classes and courses to a maximum of 10 hrs/week (averaged annually);
• Support the day-to-day operations at the various Fitness Centres;
• Instructs or supports staffing for Fitness center programs as qualified and as needed;
• Assist in the development and ongoing review of new facility procedures including program manuals and communication devices required to create understanding by staff members;
• Assist in the preparation and maintenance of the following administrative documentation: fitness and recreation programming; program records; monthly equipment and facility maintenance logbooks; accident reports; contracts for Instructors;
• Assist in developing written risk management policies and procedures for areas of responsibility;
• Serve as a liaison for CCR fitness programs within the fitness certification industry;
• Assist with planning, development and innovations with the Team Lead/Supervisor and advocate for new and existing course offerings with CCR.
  
  

Qualifications

• Minimum of one year of experience related to facility, sport, recreation and/or event management
• Undergraduate degree in kinesiology, physical education, recreation, and sport management and/or equivalent experience demonstrating leadership in sport, recreation, and administration.
• Intermediate First Aid (formerly Standard) & CPR Level C (within 2 years) required
• Certification in the Certified Personal Training with CSEP or Equivalent required; Certification in Certified Exercise Physiologist with CSEP or Equivalent is an asset
• Alberta Fitness Leadership Certification Association (AFLCA) Group Exercise with one or more specialties (Choreography, Portable Equipment, Step, Cycle, Mind Body) is an asset
• Certification in one of the following would be an asset: CSEP - CPT, Alberta Fitness Leadership Certification Association (AFLCA) CFT, Resistance Training Leader Specialty and/or Fitness for the Older Adult
• Alberta Fitness Leadership Certification (AFLCA) Trainer or Assistant Trainer (or willingness to obtain) would be an asset
• Experience in facility management, programming, officiating and/or instructing in sports and recreation activities preferred
• Customer service and problem-solving experience preferred
